Best-selling author Lee Strobel reflected on the “life-changing reality” of Jesus’ resurrection as we enter Holy Week and prepare to celebrate Easter.
“Without question, the amount of testimony and corroboration of Jesus’ post-resurrection appearances is staggering,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “To put it into perspective, if you were to call each one of the witnesses to a court of law to be cross-examined for just fifteen minutes each, and you went around the clock without a break, it would take you from breakfast on Monday until dinner on Friday to hear them all. After listening to 129 straight hours of eyewitness testimony, who could possibly walk away unconvinced?”
Strobel then quoted Sir Edward Clarke, a British High Court judge who did his own analysis of the veracity of the first Easter: “To me the evidence is conclusive, and over and over again in the High Court I have secured the verdict on evidence not nearly so compelling. As a lawyer I accept the gospel evidence unreservedly as the testimony of truthful men to facts that they were able to substantiate.”
“The Case for Easter probes the core issues of the resurrection,” he continued, referring to his 2004 book. “Jesus Christ, risen from the dead: superstitious myth or life-changing reality?”
A synopsis of The Case for Easter shares Strobel’s research process, diving into “the medical evidence,” “the evidence of the missing body” and “the evidence of appearances.”
“Written in a hard-hitting, journalistic style, The Case for Easter probes the core issues of the resurrection,” the synopsis continues. “Jesus Christ, risen from the dead: superstitious myth or life-changing reality? The evidence is in. The verdict is up to you.”
Strobel has written several books that explore the evidence behind the Christian faith, and some have been made into documentaries, including THE CASE FOR CHRIST and THE CASE FOR MIRACLES.
In a 2022 interview with Guideposts, he shared why he’s so interested in this topic.
“[I’m] interested in looking at not only evidence from within the Bible, but also what evidence there is outside the Bible that supports what the Bible tells us,” Strobel explained. “If the Bible is telling us the truth, you would expect that there would be other evidence that would support that.”
Stroble’s The Case for Easter takes readers through the evidence that proves Jesus’ resurrection, giving new dimensions to the story we all know.
