Thunderstorm Artis, a former contestant on THE VOICE and AMERICAN IDOL, shared his testimony in a raw “I Am Second” video.

“The devil’s greatest strength is convincing us that we’re the only ones going through what we’re going through in life,” said Artis, per a press release. “He gets us out on this island where evil is alive, and it seeks to destroy that which God wants to work through.”

Artis shared his life’s trials, including his experience of sexual assault as a child, his father’s death, loneliness and thoughts of suicide.

“I started to think there was no purpose in living or trying,” he said. “I was asking God, ‘If you’re real, I need you to show me, because if you’re not, then I don’t see much reason or purpose to continue to live this life.’”

He attended a church service, and the pastor helped him uncover his true identity through a relationship with God. He turned to music as a form of therapy for processing his emotions.

His experience in music competitions helped him realize who he is as a child and messenger of God.

“I really fell in love with what God has given me,” said Artis. “I got to watch how God used that, and so that’s when I was like I have a calling on my life, I have a mission on my life, and I need to chase this mission for as long as I can.”

He knows that God will use him, despite his imperfections.

“I’m a project that’s unfinished. I’m a project that’s still broken but God uses the brokenness of man to accomplish great things,” said Artis. “For anyone out there that’s going through something tough or something hard, I want to tell you that what you’re going through is just a season. You have to stay strong through those seasons because better days are coming.”

When Artis was on IDOL last season, he performed in the Easter Sunday episode and got to share his faith through song.

He said at the time, “It was really, really special. My faith is something that’s very close to my heart, in the way that I try to live my life. And I feel like vocally, I haven’t been super outgoing about that on the show, but I’ve tried to show that through my actions.”

Artis has new faith-based music that will come out soon. His latest is “House of God,” which came out on Mar. 27.

“This song has just been ministering to me the last few days so glad that it’s out, finally,” Artis shared on his socials.

Artis may not have won the singing competitions, but he knows his faith will take him far.
