Clean comedian Nate Bargatze knows that his comedy style brings families together.
He told the “Armchair Expert” podcast hosts an incredible story about a 16-year-old girl who was considering taking her life when she started listening to Bargatze’s comedy with her dad. It helped them connect in a way they hadn’t before.
“You weren’t pushing them apart. You weren’t going to get them in a fight,” Bargatze said of clean comedy’s ability to bring people together, even a father and daughter who have completely different worldviews. Instead, “they’re laughing at me. I’m being dumb and whatever.”

“And then that story kept happening more and more where I would have people come up,” he added, explaining how he has heard numerous stories about families bonding over his work. “And so, then, now you get to a point where you go, I have a trust to that audience.”
While Bargatze is now one of the most recognizable names in comedy, that was not always the case. His commitment to clean comedy kept him out of the spotlight for a long time while he watched his peers’ careers skyrocket ahead of him.
“My mind just didn’t go that route of writing that kind of way. And I never wanted to make someone feel bad in the crowd,” he explained. “I just didn’t like it, and it would make me so uncomfortable to do that. So I was always making fun of myself. So, I think it kind of kept me in that realm.”
His commitment to an apolitical style of comedy has allowed him to reach heights of success only seen by the most talented standup comedians, and Bargatze is now transcending the genre to get into acting, hosting and even opening his own amusement park. He has also launched his own comedy banner with which he highlights and elevates other clean comedians.
“Nate and Nateland are committed to good, clean, family-friendly entertainment,” said Felix Verdigets, CEO of Nateland Entertainment, in a statement about the comedian’s amusement park. “We live in middle Tennessee and recognize the need for a major attraction for people of all ages in the Nashville area. We’re excited to see what our partnership with Storyland Studios will bring.”
“This project has been a long time coming, and we’re thrilled to officially announce that we have embarked on this journey with Nate, Felix, and the entire Nateland team,” said Mel McGowan, founder and chief creative officer of Storyland Studios. “Our goal is to create a truly premium themed entertainment experience right in Music City that reflects the unique humor and heart of Nateland, while also delivering a world-class destination for families.”
It is amazing to see how God has used Bargatze to not only make clean comedy mainstream but also to impact his audience in unexpected and important ways.
