The late Toby Keith’s daughter followed in his footsteps last week.
Krystal Keith, the daughter of the country singer who died last year, honored her dad as she sang the National Anthem for Steelers v. Bengals NFL game on Nov. 16.
Toby was a big Steelers fan.
“Yesterday was a dream come true,” Krystal posted on Instagram after the event. “Every moment of sitting on my dad’s lap as a kid watching The Bus plow through defenders came rushing back when I stepped on Heinz field.”
Thanks to her dad’s love of the team, Krystal counts herself a Steelers fan too.
“I have proudly worn @steelers colors my entire life and properly introducing my girls to my team in Steel city and honoring both my dad and servicemen and women by singing the anthem and doing the half time show was such an honor,” she said. Krystal brought her daughters, Hensley and Kirby, along with her for the special occasion.

She also took a moment to acknowledge her dad’s 2001 performance at the same stadium.
“My dad was the first person to sing the anthem in this stadium in 2001 right after 9/11,” she explained. “Steelers dominated the @bengals then and they happened to also be playing the Bengals again for yesterday’s game and they pulled off another victory! That makes us 2-0 as a family. The Keith/Steelers winning streak continues! Thank you @steelers for having us. It was an honor.”
People in the comment section celebrated Krystal’s moment.
“You did your Daddy proud 👏 Glad all of your family was there ❤️❤️🏈” one person said. Another person added, “What a special day ~ for you and certainly the Steelers and their fans! Love your memories and Dad was certainly shining love down on your entire family! 💛🖤”
Krystal sang “Don’t Let the Old Man In” and “American Soldier” at the game’s half time. “Don’t Let the Old Man In” was one of the last song’s Keith performed live a few months before his death.
Keith died in February 2024 after a battle with cancer.
After his death, Krystal had the opportunity to accept an honorary degree on his behalf from the University of Oklahoma.
“Toby learned he would be receiving an honorary degree from @uofoklahoma last fall, and yesterday, @krystalkeith accepted it on his behalf at the commencement ceremony,” a post on Toby’s Instagram read. “Congratulations to all of the OU graduates!”
What a wonderful way to Krystal to carry on her dad’s legacy!
