The Museum of the Bible exhibit, “Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition,” provides an opportunity for non-believers to experience the Bible.
“On November 22, Museum of the Bible, in partnership with the Israel Antiquities Authority and Running Subway, will open Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition,” the Museum wrote on its website. “The exhibition will feature biblical texts and scrolls from the community at Qumran, as well as hundreds of artifacts that reveal details about life and Judaism during the Second Temple period. The scrolls also provide unique insights into the formation of the texts that make up our Bibles today, making them a shared heritage for all ‘People of the Book.'”
“When you come here, you see the actual documents. You go back to the source,” Matthias Walther, the museum’s chief marketing officer, told the Christian Post.
He continued: “And all the theories that you have about ‘Is this true,’ ‘Is this not true,’ and ‘Can I trust the Bible or not?’ I hope this will be a step to say, ‘Man, there’s something there that I need to discover. Maybe I need to do my homework and identify all the preconceived notions that I had about this book. Maybe they’re not true?'”
In fact, THE CHOSEN actor Nick Shakoour knows first hand the power of seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls in person.
“I’ve actually always been curious about [the Dead Sea Scrolls], so I’m super excited to be here and do this walk through and experience it because it’s cool. I mean, I’m all about things that are, you know, uncovered from history and exploration,” Shakoour told Movieguide® in April of seeing the artifacts on display at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.
“I always think on a cellular level, maybe, I have always had a sense and a strong connection to these times and I’ve always sensed that,” Shakoour added. “I don’t know why. I mean, I get that I’m from that part of the world, but I feel a direct connection to those times.”
The Museum of the Bible shared a few more details about the new exhibit on Instagram, writing, “The most anticipated exhibition has arrived in Washington, D.C. Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition opens November 22.”
“From biblical texts and scrolls from the community at Qumran to hundreds of artifacts from the Second Temple period, you don’t want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” the post continued. “This exhibition was created by the Israel Antiquities Authority (@antiquities_il) from the collections of the National Treasures, in partnership with Running Subway. It was curated by Navit Popovich-Geller, Risa Levitt, and Joe Uziel.”
