As the world mourns the legendary Chuck Norris, his family wants the martial arts icon to be remembered first and foremost for his faith. The WALKER TEXAS RANGER star never shied away from boldly declaring that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior.

Here are some of our favorite quotes:

  1. On Easter Sunday 2009, I experienced another highlight in my spiritual life. I recommitted my life to Christ yet again, but this time with my household. Gena, our eight-year-old twins at the time, and I all recommitted our lives to Christ and were baptized together by our chaplain. What an absolute joy it was to watch my loved ones go into those sacred waters on our Texas ranch and to hear them affirm their belief and recommitment to follow Jesus.
  2. I’m not a preacher nor do I pretend to be. Though we respect all religions and those who adhere to them, my wife, Gena, and I are Christians, and our faith is the primary anchor for our souls. It’s the one thing that offers us true peace, hope and a remedy against fear, especially through hard times.
  3. The enduring value of humans is echoed in the Bible in Psalm 139: ‘For You, God, created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.’
  4. I agree with what Father O’Gara said about what Valentine’s life and influence should still mean for us today: “There comes a time where you have to lay your life upon the line for what you believe. And with the power of the Holy Spirit we can do that – even to the point of death.” Maybe that’s the reason the Scripture says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
  5. Gena and I believe the two primary relationships that can fill our loneliness cup are with God and others. Both are critical; you can’t have one without the other. The former empowers us for the latter, which is why our relationship with God should be our greatest priority. We properly love others because He first loved us.
  6. Our founders had a better answer than government or even education for a basis of morality and civility. God is the answer. God is the moral compass of America. Or He should be, if we ever want to restore morality in our homes and civility to our land. Our founders believed morals flowed from one’s accountability to God, and that, without God, moral anarchy would result.
  7. Every Easter is a powerful reminder of a day that changed history, and I’m not talking about the bunny. The physical Resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the Christian religion and our personal faith. It reset the course of humanity, and has indelibly changed the hearts of billions, including Gena and me.
  8. Through Jesus’ Resurrection, we not only learn that his teachings were true but also his entire ministry. Dying was His reason for living. And by rising from the dead, we understand that He can be our continual Helper and Hope every day. He promised His followers, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
  9. If we answer Jesus’ question in the affirmative, we will not only have peace with God and be blessed in this life by His continual presence; we will be blessed in the afterlife by the free gift of eternal life. It is a life that will ultimately deliver us from the diseases, toils and tyrants of this world into a life the Bible describes as “no pain, grief, sorrow or tears.” Can you imagine?
  10. One thing we know for sure about all of our fallen servicemen and servicewomen: they show us what sacrificial love is. Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this: that one lay down his or her life for others.”
  11. The one constant in life is also the source of all things in the Declaration: the Creator. Our founders trusted not in the supply but the Supplier to acquire life, liberty and happiness, and encouraged us to do the same. There’s a verse in the Bible that summarizes it for me: “You will make known to me the way of life; In Your presence is fullness of happiness; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”

When you’ve got God, you’ve got the gold – and all you need to achieve and experience true love, happiness and the American Dream. Maybe it’s time we (again) remind younger generations of that fact.
