Oscar Award winner Denzel Washington doesn’t care if he’s canceled.

“How can you be canceled? Who cares? What made public support so important to begin with? I don’t care who’s following. You can’t lead and follow at the same time, and you can’t follow and lead at the same time. I don’t follow anybody,” Washington declared in an interview with Complex News.

In fact, there’s only one person he lets lead him.

“I follow a heavenly spirit. I follow God. I’m a leading man. You know, I don’t follow anybody. I follow the Lord,” the Oscar winner said. “That’s it. That’s the only following I’m doing, is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I’m not following anybody else on this planet, period. I have faith in God. I have hope, amen.”

Chasing the wrong things can make us more susceptible to trying to please the world.

“But look around it. Ain’t working out so well. Forget being followed. You can’t be canceled if you haven’t signed up; don’t sign up. I’m about my Father’s business. That’s who I’m following,” THE EQUALIZER actor continued. “If they don’t like what I’m saying, don’t listen. Don’t follow. To God be the glory. Follow that. Hold your Bible the right side up.”

“That’s where young people are now, like, I gotta get the money. I gotta get it. That’s the only way I’m going to make it, is to get this money, get the exposure, get more followers, get more loophole. All money ain’t good money. All followers ain’t good followers. We’re all gonna have to answer,” Washington concluded.

Following the world leads to pain and destruction. If you’re looking at the next trend to decide what you value, you’ll never have a firm foundation. At the end of our lives, we are all going to give an account of what we did on earth with the time God gave us.

“When you see me, you see the best I could do with what I’ve been given by my lord and savior. I’m unafraid. I don’t care what anyone thinks,” the actor said previously.

Washington keeps his heavenly perspective at the forefront of his mind, even though he enjoys an immensely successful Hollywood career with two Oscar wins and numerous other awards and nominations.

“I don’t do it for Oscars. I don’t care about that kind of stuff,” he said during an appearance on JAKE’S TAKES last summer. “I’ve been at this a long time, and there’s time when I won and shouldn’t have won and then didn’t win and should’ve won. Man gives the award. God gives the reward.”

Washington continued, “I’m not that interested in Oscars. People ask me, ‘Where do I keep it?’ Well, next to the other one. I’m not bragging! Just telling you how I feel about it. On my last day, [Oscars] aren’t going to do me a bit of good.”

Washington’s commitment to faith is a powerful reminder that when we follow Jesus, the world’s validation doesn’t matter.
