THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is teasing characters from an entirely different game — Pikmin.
A new teaser for the movie shows a carousel of characters such as Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser JR., Pikmin and more.
The first Pikmin game came out on GameCube in 2001. There are five game versions across DS, Wii and the Switch, in addition to its mobile and tablet games, Men’s Journal reported.
The only other time Pikmin and the Mario world have intersected are through Pikmin character costumes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Maker. The Pikmen protagonist, the evil Captain Olimar, is also an available character in SUPER SMASH BROS.

IGN added that SUPER MARIO GALAXY has a ship that looks like Oimar and Louie’s rocket from Pikmin 2. A Pikmin statue also appeared in the SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE. You can find Pikmin throughout the real-life Super Nintendo World theme park in Japan, too.
“It really stems back to 20 years ago when we did a presentation where it starts off with, there’s a Pikmin next to you,” said Nintendo’s VIP, Shigeru Miyamoto. “In Nintendo there’s sort of like an unwritten rule. Mario needs to stay in the Mario universe, or Splatoon needs to stay in Splatoon, and we don’t use different characters in the same place. But Pikmin has this kind of unwritten rule where they’re okay to appear with other characters.”
Nintendo Life said Pikmin also appear in a trailer for the upcoming game, “Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.”
The SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE stars Brie Larsen as Rosalina, Donald Glover as Luigi and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
The movie’s synopsis reads, “Having thwarted Bowser’s previous plot to marry Princess Peach, Mario and Luigi now face a fresh threat in Bowser Jr., who is determined to liberate his father from captivity and restore the family legacy. Alongside companions new and old, the brothers travel across the stars to stop the young heir’s crusade.”
According to information gathered by Coming Soon, THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is estimated to be the biggest movie of 2026, even with tough competitors TOY STORY 5, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY, DUNE PART 3, AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and STAR WARS: MANDALORIAN AND GROGU.
THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE will fly into theaters on April 1, 2026.
