Disney’s newest CEO, Josh D’Amaro, has promised employees “great storytelling and creative excellence will remain our North Star” as he steps into the role.

“At its best, Disney creates stories, characters, and experiences that people connect with deeply and carry with them for a lifetime,” he wrote in a memo to staff. “That takes exceptional creativity, craftsmanship and thousands of people united by a shared commitment to excellence.”

D’Amaro wrote that he is “humbled and honored to help write the next chapter of this company,” adding, “No one else can do what we do with the same combination of creativity, quality and global scale. We reach people in more places than ever before, and every minute of every day, someone somewhere in the world is engaging with Disney.”

The new CEO then outlined his three priorities for Disney. First, that “great storytelling and creative excellence will remain our North Star,” making content that raises the bar, takes risks and exceeds audience expectations.

Secondly, D’Amaro hopes to “embrace technology,” using it to “empower our storytellers, strengthen our capabilities and help us create more immersive, interactive and personal ways for people to experience Disney.”

D’Amaro’s last priority is to unify the company and have it act as “One Disney….aligned and working in a connected way.”

“This transition comes at a moment when the world is changing faster than ever. While that can feel daunting at times, it is also exciting. Disney has endured and thrived for generations by meeting change with vision, ambition, integrity, and optimism,” he added.

The new CEO has already shared some information about his vision for Disney, telling shareholders that Disney+ will “become the digital centerpiece of our company,” calling the streamer “a portal that connects our stories, experiences, games, films and more in entirely new ways.”

D’Amaro is replacing Bob Iger, who has served as Disney’s CEO from 2005 to 2020, then again from 2022 to 2026. He announced he was stepping down earlier this year but will stay on as a special adviser at Disney, as well as a member of the company’s board of directors.

“As I step away, I do so with enormous gratitude and real optimism,” Iger said during Disney’s Annual Shareholder Meeting. “I believe deeply in this company’s future, because I believe in Josh D’Amaro and the people who will help him shape it next.”

The entertainment world is eager to see how D’Amaro shepherds Disney through this rapidly-changing industry.
