Hallmark announced that its popular series THE WAY HOME will end after Season 4, which is slated to release in spring of 2026.

“Fans of THE WAY HOME have enthusiastically watched and rewatched every episode since the first pond jump of season 1 as they’ve tried to piece together the brilliant puzzle Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clarke and Marly Reed expertly crafted,” Samantha DiPippo, the Senior Vice President of programming at Hallmark Media, told PEOPLE. “We’re grateful to our talented cast led by Andie, Chyler, Evan, and Sadie, as well as our amazing writers and crew who have worked so hard on this show.”

THE WAY HOME does not exactly fit into what someone might expect from a Hallmark show. With deep sci-fi beats, it seems unlikely it could match the cozy nature Hallmark is known for. The show, however, does meet and even exceed these expectations as the characters’ relationships are the main focus and love and drama pervade a story that is ultimately about family and friendship.

The show has proven to be so popular among its audience that when Hallmark attempted to pull the show from TV and only air it on its streaming service, fans’ outcry caused the network to reverse this plan. Meanwhile, the first two seasons of the show have been licensed to Netflix while the third one currently remains exclusive to stream on Hallmark+.

“Season 4 will feature the thrilling twists and turns fans expect and, as the Landry family’s journey comes to a satisfying close, viewers will get the answers they’ve waited for,” DiPippo teased.

This remark from DiPippo is sure to ease some fans’ worries as the show is known for cliffhangers and spawning multiple more questions anytime a previous query is answered.

“I think the best part about this show is that nothing is straightforward. Everything is an answer begets a question,” showrunner Alexandra Clark told PEOPLE after the season three finale. “I’m so intrigued to hear people’s theories about what they think happened in that final millisecond of the show.”

It is great news for fans that not only is the show getting another season, but the writers also know it is the final season, so they can plan to wrap up every storyline. Season 4 was not even a guarantee, but Hallmark decided to greenlight the continuation after seeing that fans continued to be engaged with the show.

“We were always hopeful. It’s funny, it’s been so incredible seeing the fan reaction this season to waiting to hear for this renewal,” Clark told Collider. “It really touched us. They’re putting petitions up, and I just recently saw this incredible video where all these fans are holding up the number four and saying, ‘Let’s do it!’ I think it’s so, so kind and so amazing and we’re so flattered.”

Season 4 will not release until the spring, and Hallmark has yet to reveal a specific release date.
