As revivals take place both domestically and abroad, the YouVersion Bible app celebrates a monumental achievement — it has now been downloaded over one billion times.
“We’re seeing incredible global momentum around Bible engagement, and it’s humbling to be part of what’s happening,” said founder and CEO of YouVersion, Bobby Gruenewald. “Every day we hear stories of lives being changed — someone overcoming addiction, marriages being restored, people encountering scripture in their own language for the first time.”
“This milestone is really a celebration of the Bible itself and what happens when people around the world work together to get it into the hands and hearts of more people,” he continued.

The original Bible app released in 2008 and has since grown into a major resource for anyone seeking to engage with scripture today. The app offers over 3,600 Bible translations in more than 2,300 languages.
“I never imagined [what] God was going to do with it,” Gruenewald told Church Leaders in August. “And it’s obviously a God story and something He’s done. And we’ve just been privileged and humbled to be a part of it.”
The gospel has been spread through technology more and more in recent years as a number of faith-based apps have found extreme popularity. In 2024, for example, Hallow became the first religious app to hit No. 1 on the App Store.
“#1 in the App Store!! Glory Be – He is #1,” Hallow posted on Instagram to celebrate the achievement. “We are overjoyed with how powerful Day 1 of Lent Pray40 was. Not only did over 1 million people join the challenge and start a transformational prayer journey yesterday, Hallow also became the first religious app to ever reach the top of the App Store Charts!”
Meanwhile, in October of last year, Hallow celebrated 600 million prayers which have helped people connect to God through a variety of themes and seasons.
While revival has hit America in recent years, the success of these apps also points towards an uptick in religious interest around the world, even in countries that seem otherwise spiritually dead. YouVersion, for example, specifically highlighted how it has seen a major growth in users in the UK in recent years.
“Something remarkable is happening in the UK as we’re seeing a resurgence in people hungry for God’s Word”, said Stephen Foster, Rector of St. Aldate’s Church, Oxford, a church that partners with the app. “There is a surprising growth in church attendance, particularly among young people, and more and more people are engaging with Scripture regularly. It’s exciting to witness communities across Britain rediscovering the transformative power of Scripture in their daily lives.”
Praise the Lord for the way He is reaching billions of people through technology. It is amazing to see how He uses everything this world has to offer to bring people back to Him.
