Bible App’s Latest Milestone Highlights People’s Hunger for God’s Word

YouVersion’s Bible app just had its largest single day for installs, with over 798,000 downloading the app on Jan. 5.
Bobby Gruenewald, founder of YouVersion and a pastor at Life.Church, told The Christian Post that the app “saw 18.2 million people engage in the Bible and more than 798,000 installs” on that day.
This number broke the record previously set on the first Sunday of last year.
“We tend to see a seasonal uptick in Bible engagement at the beginning of the year as people start new habits and are interested in reading the Bible for the first time,” Gruenewald explained. “What’s interesting to us is that this year’s increase is even higher than this same time last year, and it’s a trend we’re seeing globally.”
He added that he and the YouVersion team are “amazed that we get to be a part of how God chooses to [connect with people] on a daily basis.”
“Every time someone opens the Bible is an opportunity for the power of God’s Word to change their life,” Gruenewald continued.
In an interview with CBN last year, Gruenewald shared, “The narrative that people no longer read the Bible is simply not true. We have evidence and empirical data, real data, not just a survey that someone had somewhere, that indicates that there is momentum globally around scripture engagement. So we should be encouraged to know that God’s word is very alive and well, and if anything, more relevant to today’s culture than maybe ever before in human history.”

The YouVersion Bible app was also pulling in high user numbers throughout 2024, especially in its Prayer features.
“Throughout 2024, we have seen a rise in the number of people dedicating themselves to night and day prayer in different nations around the world,” said Carla Harding, International Director of Products for 24-7 Prayer International.
YouVersion and 24-7 Prayer International are partners, working to create “an unbroken chain of prayer, every hour of the day and night” among churches in over 65 countries.
“Our hope is that through continual prayer, the global church would be ignited in the presence of God and carry His love with greater compassion and power to the communities around them,” Harding said.
