Anne Wilson has set the world of country music on fire by being so open about her faith, and this attitude comes from a desire to be herself instead of always playing it safe.
“I came into this being like, okay, I’m going to just say what I want to say and I literally don’t care. Like, truly, I care what happens, but I’m making this decision knowing this could affect my following or it could affect my career. I’m going to pray about it, and then I’m still going to, if I feel like I’m supposed to do it, I’m going to do it,” Wilson told comedian John Crist on his podcast.

“So, like, last fall I took a stand for Trump, not because I loved everything he was doing or believed everything he was saying or even condoned the person he is, but because I felt like no one was speaking in my generation for Trump,” Wilson continued. “No one was speaking about the things that he was standing for and how those support Christian values…We posted it, and it ended up making a huge splash, and I lost followers but gained three times the amount and people being like, wow, I can’t believe you are standing up for this.”
Wilson has carried this approach into the messages found in her music as well. In 2024, she released her album Rebel which speaks to the way that being a follower of Christ causes Christians to rebel against this world.
“Jesus was such a rebel in that time and in that culture. He went against everything that the religious leaders would’ve wanted Him to do,” Wilson explained. “These religious leaders, He could not stand them. He was so disgusted by their religion and the way that they were walking out their life, and it was like they were going against everything that Jesus was truly there for and truly about and what the Father was calling Him to do.”
“Having faith in the world that we live in today makes me feel a little bit like a rebel,” she added. “It’s like when we have faith, we’re the odd ones out. But yet the world can go talk about all these horrible subjects, and it’s welcomed and invited.”
In a society where Christianity can feel very watered down and sterile, it is amazing to see Wilson give it the life it deserves and boldly live out her faith, incorporating it into every thing she does.
