While it may seem obvious that the one of the world’s most popular video games is a game, but in fact, Roblox is actually just a platform that hosts user made games.
“Roblox is an immersive gaming and creation platform that offers people millions of ways to be together, inviting its community to explore, create, and share endless unique experiences,” Roblox describes itself on its website.
This is exactly what makes it so dangerous for users because there is no set experience that parents can expect, nor is Roblox able to regulate everything put up on its site. This is how things like underage gambling and virtual strip clubs have appeared on the site and catered to millions of users.

It is, perhaps, also the reason why the platform has attracted so many pedophiles, because they are able to create and engage in experiences that allow them to groom and abuse young users. In October of 2024, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation released a major study that revealed there were hundreds of thousands of users on the site who were explicitly seeking child sexual abuse materials, while the platform was also the host to many games based on sexual abuse.
“Researchers also found sexual abuse-themed games, many of which they were able to access when registered as a child, including ones centered on convicted sex offenders like ‘Escape to Epstein Island’ and ‘Run From Diddy Simulator,’” NCOSE said.
While Roblox has attempted to increase its child safety since this study was released, it has proven to be of little success as children continue to experience exploitation and abuse under these new systems. The situation has become so dire that in October the Florida Attorney General announced his office would be investigating the site.
“Platforms like Roblox have become breeding ground for predators to gain access to our kids,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said. “We will stop at nothing in the fight to protect Florida’s children, and companies that expose them to harm will be held accountable.”
All of these issues trace back to the core of the platform, as there would be no predatory issues if Roblox as a company was making all of the games that its users engage in. Instead, because it relies fully on user-made content, the door is wide open for the abuses the continue to take place on the site. While Roblox continues to argue that it is an incredibly safe platform and users are not at an increased risk when they use the site, parents should be extremely wary about their children playing the game because of the reality of what occurs on the platform.
