What You Need To Know:
Episode 1 of IT’S NOT LIKE THAT does a good job introducing a large cast of characters and their individual problems while keeping the action moving. As Malcolm and Lori, Scott Foley and Erinn Hayes give excellent, moving performances, and the cast of younger actors are impressive. Episode 1 of IT’S NOT LIKE THAT has a strong Christian, moral, pro-family worldview. People discuss their faith, attend church, and give or listen to sermons. As the episode opens, Malcolm and Lori are struggling. Malcolm, a pastor and father of three, is still reeling from his wife’s death and feels helpless steering his two daughters and son through their own grief. Meanwhile, Lori still feels blindsided by her divorce, and by how easily her ex-husband is taking to single life.
The two adults lean on each other, encouraging and supporting each other as they try to be the best parents they can be. Also, their children are struggling with their own problems.
For example, Lori’s son, Merritt, still feels angry about his parents’ divorce, while his sister, Casey, deals with mean girls. Malcolm’s children have their own problems.
