Jesus never promised a life of health and prosperity; He even warned believers that they would face hardship.

Singer Ellie Holcomb reminds Christians of the hope of Christ even if we don’t receive the prayed-for miracles and healing on this side of heaven.

“I’ve known the tenderness and the empathy of God and the goodness of God to remind me that this isn’t the end of the story,” Holcomb said

“There may not be healing on this side,” she continued. “We may not get the miracle on this side of heaven, but there is a day coming where every sad thing will come untrue, and we all make it back to the far country. We all make it back to our true home.”

In another interview, the singer/songwriter expanded on the idea of the “empathy of God.”

“God can handle your questions. He has space to hold your sorrow,” the “Red Sea Road” singer said. “He has empathy. He’s well acquainted with grief.”

The mother of three related our struggles to wrestling with God and how in her experience has brought her closer to Him, rather than farther away. She likens it to wrestling with her 7-year-old son Rivers.

“I love wrestling with my boy; Rivers is my wrestler kid…” the Tennessee native revealed on the “Marked” podcast. “And when you’re wrestling, you think about actually how intimate that is, and how close you are.”

“And so sometimes it’s honestly been in my story. The moments where I’ve wrestled with God, where I’m close enough to hear His heartbeat so intimately…in ways that I don’t hear when things are all good,” Holcomb added. “[S]o I would just say, God can hold you even in this wrestling place, even in this sorrowful place.”

In line with the artist’s message of leaning on God through trials, Holcomb teased a duet version of her song “Hope’s Gonna Find You” with Franni Cash.

A portion of the lyrics read:

On the edge when it feels like you’re not gonna pull through

Is the place you discover that hope’s gonna find you

Hope’s gonna find you

I’m leaning, I’m leaning

On the Everlasting Arms

I’m leaning, I’m leaning

I could never fall too far

The lyrics serve as a reminder when faced with the “detours” of life, as Holcomb called them, where “those low places have become the biggest evidence of His presence.”
