Prue Leith is saying goodbye to television and taking a well-deserved retirement as the 86-year-old recently announced the end of her time on THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF.
“After nine series and judging more than 400 challenges, I have decided to step down as a judge on THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF,” she posted on Instagram on Jan. 21. “BAKE OFF has been a fabulous part of my life for the last nine years, I have genuinely loved it and I’m sure I’ll miss working with my fellow judge Paul, Alison and Noel and the teams at Love Productions and Channel 4.”
She explained that now “feels like the right time to step back,” joking, “I’m 86 for goodness sake!”
“There’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden,” Leith continued. “Whoever joins the team, I’m sure they’ll love it as much as I have. I feel very lucky to have been part of it.”

Fans in the comment section wished Leith well on her endeavors.
“End of an era. It won’t be the same without you. Thank you for all of it. 🇬🇧🍰” one person wrote.
Another added, “If you could make a Prue baking line with some colorful patterned mixing bowls and such, I’d absolutely buy the whole line ❤️”
THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF Instagram celebrated the beloved chef, saying, “Our wonderful Prue has decided to step away from judging BAKE OFF.”
“From joyful judging to colourful fits to accidental innuendoes, you are simply the best and will be so missed,” they wrote. “Please join us in wishing Prue the very best and thanking her for nine brilliant years in the Tent ❤️”
Leith joined THE GREAT BRITISH BAKEOFF in 2017 when longtime judge Mary Berry stepped away. Since then, she has judged alongside Paul Hollywood.
The show first aired in 2010 and has been going strong ever since.
“THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF is the ultimate baking battle where passionate amateur baking fans compete to be crowned the UK’s Best Amateur Baker,” a description reads. “Over the course of 10 episodes, the series follows the trials and tribulations of the competitors, young and old, from every background and every corner of Britain, as they attempt to prove their baking prowess.”
It continues, “Each week the bakers tackle a different baking skill, which become progressively more difficult as the competition unfolds.”
