Macaulay Culkin’s children love HOME ALONE, but the former child actor hasn’t clued them into the fact that he’s the star of the movie for this sweet reason.
“I try to keep the magic alive,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I showed my oldest — he wanted to see a picture of me and my siblings, so I pulled up this old photo; it’s all my siblings, and he looks right at me, and he goes, ‘Who’s that? That looks like Kevin.’ I go, ‘Oh, no, nobody, here’s your aunt.’”
Culkin, who shares sons Dakota, 4, and Carson, 3, with Brenda Song, joked, “They don’t even call it HOME ALONE, they call it ‘Kevin.’ They’re like, ‘Wow, Kevin’s really funny.’ I go, ‘He’s also handsome, somebody that your mom might be into.'”
During a Q&A about the movie, Culkin shared that, when he watches the movie with his sons, he doesn’t “watch the movie, I watch them.”

“I watch their eyes. I listen to them laugh and things like that,” he explained. “And it makes me really proud to be a part of something like that. So it resonates now. Now I can see it through their eyes.”
Culkin continued, “You guys were raised on it, now you guys are raising your kids on it right? So, now I’m raising my kids on it. It means something completely different. That’s the way I look at the movie nowadays.”
He and Song have been open about their efforts to keep their children out of the spotlight.
In an interview with Bustle, Song mentioned a public family outing to see Culkin receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“That was such a special moment. We couldn’t have them miss that,” she said but added, “Dak[ota] was so scared of all the cameras. That’s one of the reasons why we sort of keep them away [from the spotlight]. They did not understand what was happening.”
Song continued, “You could take pictures of me all day. I don’t care. But when it’s your kids, it’s different. They didn’t ask for this life.”
“Family life is the most important thing,” Song emphasized, explaining it has changed the way she chooses acting roles: “My priority is my children, so I can’t just uproot my life and go live in Bulgaria for nine months to shoot a movie.”
Culkin’s sons will eventually realize their dad is the star of HOME ALONE, but for now, he and Song are still keeping that Christmas magic alive for their kids.
