The characters are believable, and the unfolding drama weaves a powerful story of faith and family.
As Pastor James prepares to leave for Chicago, a young couple new the community ask him to baptize their baby. He agrees to hold the ceremony in an old prayer barn on the ranch, where he delivers a beautiful message that brings the community together. In the ceremony, James quotes Matthew 18:20 and Mark 10:14. He also performs the baptism and recites Numbers 6:24-26 as a blessing to the young family. The ceremony renews his sense of purpose in Crossroad Springs.
Meanwhile, Willis is unhappy that James plans to return to Chicago and abandon the ranch, which Willis sees as a family calling. He expresses his frustration and disappointment to James several times throughout the episode. Pastor James wrestles with the guilt of leaving and the calling God has on his life to tend to his congregation. When Willis attends the service, he’s moved to see James in his element. However, will it be enough for him to give James his blessing to leave the Red Oak Ranch?
At the same time, tensions mount over a proposed quarry deal, which puts the ranch’s future in jeopardy. The neighboring farm, owned by the Newman family and led by Daniel Newman, has a long-standing feud with the Hamiltons. Daniel will go to any length to purchase the valuable land tied to the quarry, which would secure water rights and affect possible expansion of the ranch. Daniel takes drastic measures to underhandedly shift the terms from the landowner, creating more problems for the Hamilton Family.
