10 Movies About Remarkable Women in Honor of Women’s History Month

By Movieguide® Contributor

March in Women’s History Month, and these films tell the stories of remarkable women throughout history. From ladies from the Bible like Mary and Esther to women whose lives honored God like Mother Teresa and Francesca Cabrini, these women are fantastic role models. Whether it’s the female scientist in HIDDEN FIGURES who contributed to the space program or Rosa Parks who inspired a movement, these films spotlight women who made a difference in the world. Some ladies overcame the odds, pushed beyond barriers and showed Christ’s love in powerful ways.

HIDDEN FIGURES

Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
HIDDEN FIGURES is an engaging, encouraging, uplifting salute to three African-American women who contribute greatly to the 1960s NASA program during the Space Race with Communist Russia. Led by three fantastic actresses, HIDDEN FIGURES is an uplifting movie that exemplifies a positive way to stand with Christian strength and grace in the face of opposition, but caution is advised for older children due to many light obscenities and one strong profanity.

CABRINI

-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
CABRINI tells the inspiring true story of Mother Cabrini, an Italian immigrant and the first United States citizen to be canonized as the patron saint of immigrants, who travels to America in 1889 to live out her gospel mission to care for orphans in the streets and sewers of New York City. CABRINI boasts stunning visuals and a truly compelling performance by Cristiana Dell’Anna as Cabrini that will keep viewers engaged throughout the entire story. Due to some violence and adult themes, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger viewers.

UNPLANNED

In BETHANY HAMILTON: UNSTOPPABLE, Bethany Hamilton, the world renowned surfer who lost her left arm from a shark attack, takes to the screen again as she stars in her own documentary. The action-packed movie takes place over six years as it dives into the true, real and rawest Bethany Hamilton like she’s never revealed before to the public. UNSTOPPABLE is a great documentary for people of all ages, with a strong Christian worldview where Bethany attributes her success to God, people pray before surfing, marriage is uplifted, and pregnancy is seen as a gift from God.

HARRIET

HARRIET is the incredible story about how Harriet Tubman became Harriet Tubman, the woman who saved thousands of slaves and brought them to freedom before the Civil War. HARRIET is an exceptionally well-made movie with a strong Christian worldview, but it does have intense scenes and some foul language.

I’M NOT ASHAMED opens up a small glimpse into the life of Rachel Scott, one of the young Christian victims during the Columbine school shooting in 1999, and the profound difference Rachel made before and after her untimely death. I’M NOT ASHAMED is a beautifully made movie with passionate actors, and an inspiring Christian message of compassion through Jesus, but some violent moments and displays of teenage rebellion require caution for children.

FULL OF GRACE

MOTHER TERESA: NO GREATER LOVE is a moving, inspiring tribute to Mother Teresa, her charity work and the many people who continue that work, and the movie has a strong Christian, biblical, moral worldview that puts Jesus first, at the center of everything, but there are some images of people sick, dying and missing limbs that may disturb younger children.
