March in Women’s History Month, and these films tell the stories of remarkable women throughout history. From ladies from the Bible like Mary and Esther to women whose lives honored God like Mother Teresa and Francesca Cabrini, these women are fantastic role models. Whether it’s the female scientist in HIDDEN FIGURES who contributed to the space program or Rosa Parks who inspired a movement, these films spotlight women who made a difference in the world. Some ladies overcame the odds, pushed beyond barriers and showed Christ’s love in powerful ways.

In BETHANY HAMILTON: UNSTOPPABLE, Bethany Hamilton, the world renowned surfer who lost her left arm from a shark attack, takes to the screen again as she stars in her own documentary. The action-packed movie takes place over six years as it dives into the true, real and rawest Bethany Hamilton like she’s never revealed before to the public. UNSTOPPABLE is a great documentary for people of all ages, with a strong Christian worldview where Bethany attributes her success to God, people pray before surfing, marriage is uplifted, and pregnancy is seen as a gift from God.

HARRIET

HARRIET is the incredible story about how Harriet Tubman became Harriet Tubman, the woman who saved thousands of slaves and brought them to freedom before the Civil War. HARRIET is an exceptionally well-made movie with a strong Christian worldview, but it does have intense scenes and some foul language.

I’M NOT ASHAMED

I’M NOT ASHAMED opens up a small glimpse into the life of Rachel Scott, one of the young Christian victims during the Columbine school shooting in 1999, and the profound difference Rachel made before and after her untimely death. I’M NOT ASHAMED is a beautifully made movie with passionate actors, and an inspiring Christian message of compassion through Jesus, but some violent moments and displays of teenage rebellion require caution for children.

FULL OF GRACE

FULL OF GRACE tells the story of Mary and Peter after Jesus’ ascension. Peter doubts his abilities to defend Christianity, but Mary provides wisdom to help him continue in his calling. Although a bit slow, FULL OF GRACE is beautifully made and brings a fresh perspective to the Gospel story.

THE MIRACLE SEASON

Based on a true story, THE MIRACLE SEASON is an inspiring sports drama about a high school volleyball team that has to step up and encourage one another when their beloved captain unexpectedly dies. THE MIRACLE SEASON is an entertaining, wholesome movie, with a strong Christian message about loving and encouraging each other in the midst of hardship.

RIDE TO FREEDOM: THE ROSA PARKS STORY

RIDE TO FREEDOM: THE ROSA PARKS STORY is a well-produced television movie starring Angela Bassett as Parks. This made for television movie shows that the woman famous for inciting the civil rights movement for not moving from her seat on the back of the bus was motivated by her commitment to Christ, not by rebellion.

MOTHER TERESA: NO GREATER LOVE

MOTHER TERESA: NO GREATER LOVE is a Fathom Events documentary that showcases Catholic charities for “the poorest of the poor” started by and inspired by Mother Teresa, interspersed with a narrative about the life of Mother Teresa, including some brief dramatic reconstructions of her life without dialogue, footage of Mother Teresa helping needy people, and footage of her speaking about her faith and her charity work. MOTHER TERESA: NO GREATER LOVE is a moving, inspiring tribute to Mother Teresa, her charity work and the many people who continue that work, and the movie has a strong Christian, biblical, moral worldview that puts Jesus first, at the center of everything, but there are some images of people sick, dying and missing limbs that may disturb younger children.
