4 Ways These Celebrities Inspired Us

By Movieguide® Contributor

Most people do not think of Hollywood and faith in the same sentence. But there’s been no shortage of beautiful stories of God’s goodness this past year. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it,” John 1:5. We’ve gathered a few of the most special recent moments of celebrities inspiring us in our faith.

Russell Brand’s Newfound Faith Continues Burning Bright

Many were brought to tears last year as Russell Brand, a famous Hollywood actor, came to faith in Jesus Christ. He shared vulnerably on his Instagram that after a few months of being a Christ-follower, he realizes that sometimes he doesn’t always FEEL close to God. In his post, he asks other Christians what they do when they feel like God is far away. Russell also compares finding temporary happiness based on feelings to eating a ton of candy; it brings temporary pleasure but leaves you feeling awful.

Russell looked quite peaceful and radiant in this video he posted, and even Bobby Houston of Hillsong commented on the post. Months later, he made another video saying that he rests in the fact that he no longer makes decisions on his own because Christ’s actions set a course for him and have already predetermined the path he ought to take in this life. Russell Brand is shining bright for Jesus these days, and we as Christians can be inspired to follow Christ in a way for all to see, having an answer whenever we are asked about our faith (1 Peter 3:15-17).

Candace Cameron Bure Is Reading The Bible This Year

Candace Cameron Bure always encourages and challenges fans to deepen their relationship with God. This year is no exception. She wants to take us through the Bible in 2025. “I want to prepare you that if you want to read through the Bible in a year to join me again with the Bible Recap. It’s hosted by Tara-Leigh Cobble, and it’ll take you through the Bible, reading chronologically,” Bure shared on Instagram.

One of the primary disciplines God has called us as believers to follow is reading and memorizing the Bible (Psalm 119:11). Candace is inspiring us all to go deeper this year and take our Bible reading seriously!

Hannah Brown, Former Bachelorette, Chooses To Honor God In Engagement Season

Another celebrity we can draw encouragement from is Hannah Brown, lead in Bachelorette’s 2019 season, who has decided to honor God with her engagement to Adam Woolard. After getting more serious about their faith, they felt convicted about living together before marriage. “We really had to get honest with like, ‘OK, we say we want to go all in with our relationship, like be completely on fire for God, but what are areas that we’re kind of just like holding back?’” Brown revealed to Us Weekly.

“There were a few. I mean, finances were hard for me and our just relationship in general could be tough when it comes to believing and honoring what God has for marriage — and that being living together. She continued, “We have lived together [since] eight months into our relationship and we decided to just trust God and we are not living in this house together until we get married this summer. It was obviously a big decision and very different and new, but we both separately were having these thoughts in our prayer and just feeling the Lord to call us to do this.”

Hannah’s decision should inspire Christians to do the right thing, even when it is difficult or inconvenient. God honors those decisions to trust and obey him.

Jinger Vuolo Inspires Us To Stop People-Pleasing

Jinger Vuolo, from the beloved show 19 KIDS AND COUNTING, has written a new book, telling her story and lessons she’s learned from being a people pleaser. She encourages readers to find their identity in Christ and not in people’s expectations or opinions of them. “‘ If our worth is found in our relationship with God, that has to be the first thing that’s right,’ she said. ‘Otherwise, we’ll crumble under others’ opinions.'”

She also shares her story on her husband’s podcast, The Jinger and Jeremy Podcast. Through her book, Jinger invites Christians to reflect on who they are trying to please: God or others. Galatians 1:10 says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
