Mariah Carey just tied a Christmas music record! Her hit holiday single “All I Want For Christmas Is You” just spent its nineteenth week at the top of the charts.
“It matches the reigns of two hits that led over one release cycle each,” Billboard reported. “Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy),’ in 2024, and Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road,’ featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, in 2019.”
This is the seventh consecutive year that “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has hit No. 1 on the Billboard chart, making it Carey’s 19th No. 1 hit — the most for any solo artist and only one behind the Beatles, who hold the all-time record.
“When I wrote [it], I had absolutely no idea the impact the song would eventually have worldwide,” Carey told Billboard in a 2021 interview. “How could I? It was so early on in my career and most young artists, at that time, weren’t really making Christmas music at the onset of their careers.”

The hit single was part of Carey’s 1994 holiday album, Merry Christmas.
“When writing [it], I was tapping into a bittersweet mixture of longing and festiveness,” she explained. “I had grown up wishing I could have a functional family Christmas like the ones I saw on TV or in the movies, but truth is…that never happened! So, I wrote the song for the little girl in me filled with holiday spirit.”
Carey concluded, “The record really has brought me full circle, and I’m so full of gratitude that so many people enjoy it with me every year.”
In a 1994 interview with FOX 5 NY, the pop star spoke more about the album’s inspiration, saying, “I just wanted to do a Christmas album for myself, to wrap my presents [to].”
“I love the holidays,” Carey continued. “Every time Christmas rolls around, I get ideas for different Christmas songs, and I’ve been kind of pushing them aside, pushing them aside, and last year, I just decided to [make an album].”
Carey has been bringing her love of Christmas to the stage this holiday season with a Vegas residency. The singer typically tours at this time of year, but in 2024, she told PEOPLE she needed “to schedule [the shows] a little bit differently” to avoid illness.
“I really love doing it,” she said of the Christmas concerts, adding that the shows are something she will “always do.”
Carey has tied this Billboard record, but there’s still plenty of time left this holiday season for “All I Want For Christmas Is You” to break it!
