If God is good, why does he allow bad things to happen? That is a difficult and common question many face, and Christian singer Anne Wilson shared her thoughts on it in an interview with Savannah Chrisley.

“I think it goes back to we’re really undeserving,” Wilson explained. “You know, none of us are deserving of anything that we have. And ultimately, God is the one that has given us what He’s given us and blessed us and given us the opportunity to have freedom through Jesus dying on the cross and to have our sins forgiven and to have a life with Him.”

“And I think for me, it always started with like putting myself in my rightful place of realizing I’m nothing without God, I can’t do this without God, like I need him to get me through everything I go through.”

“Ultimately, God is still good in the midst of everything,” the singer continued. “God might allow something to happen that we don’t understand, but that doesn’t make Him not a good God. He just has a plan in things. He also allows things to happen for our benefit and for His glory and to better us.”

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Wilson added, “So like when you look at stories and you’re able to see okay, God was in this, He was working this for our good, I think that’s where trust comes in and just saying like, ‘God, I’m going to trust you.'”

Wilson knows all too well what it’s like to face tragedies we don’t understand. In 2017, her older brother Jacob died in a car accident. Her most recent album titled Stars reflects her grief and processing of this loss.

In an interview with Country Now, she said, “There’s a couple other songs that talk about being 23 on this album, and it just felt like a really pivotal year for me because I was grasping the idea of living longer than my brother ever got to. And for me, he was eight years older than me, so it was like, I always looked at Jacob as so much older and he was this big adult and he is just so much older than me. And now that I’m his age, it’s so hard to grasp that I’m going to live longer than he got to. And it makes me sad and it’s an extra layer of grief.”

Wilson also explained how God used the tragic situation to bring her into a music career.

“I wanted to be an astronaut and work for NASA, and then my brother passed away and everything changed, and music became what God was calling me to,” she said.

Wilson’s story is a reminder that even when everything goes wrong, God is still with us and can use our pain and trials for a purpose.
