“You’re a good man Charlie Brown….”
Beloved PEANUTS characters are coming to a screen near you! Apple, along with Canadian-based children’s programming company, DHX Media, which shares 41% of the rights to Peanuts Worldwide, will produce projects based on the characters like Sally, Linus, Snoopy and the entire PEANUTS cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “DHX Media also will produce original short-form STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) content that will be exclusive to Apple and feature astronaut Snoopy.” The partnership between Peanuts Worldwide and NASA aims to inspire children’s heart for exploration in space.
As Michael O’Connell points out, the PEANUTS characters aren’t exclusively adored by just children. Since the PEANUTS comics came to audiences in the 1950s and have since resonated with generations of fans worldwide. Parents and grandparents now share holiday classics like A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS and others with youngsters, making this a promising venture for Apple.
In March 2019, Apple, like Disney will launch their new streaming service which, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, is trying to cultivate family-friendly options. It’s no question the PEANUTS characters fall under the “family-friendly” category, but we’ll have to stay tuned to see if the final product aligns with their goals….
