Arizona State Wide Receiver Jordyn Tyson praised the Lord after his team was able to pull off a massive upset to defeat the number seven-ranked Texas Tech.
“The Bible, I kind of look at it like instructions for life,” Tyson told reporters after the game. “You know, as much as I get into the word, and the word, and the word, it elevates my life in every way possible. So, diving into my faith completely, especially with the guys [on the team], you see the other guys do it as well… It’s everything to us. You pray to God before you get onto the field so why wouldn’t you praise Him as well. So my faith is everything, I feel like it’s the reason why I’ve taken the next step this season, I feel like it’s the reason why I’m more locked in during the week in just day to day decision making and everything.”
“My faith [in Jesus] is everything. It’s the reason I’ve taken the next step this season. It’s the reason I’m more locked in during the week… Day to day decision making. Everything.”

Tyson had a monster game, with 106 yards on six receptions along with a touchdown. As an unranked team, Arizona State was a massive underdog heading into the game, but dominated the field, winning 34-15. After such a monumental game, it is extremely impressive to see Tyson praising the Lord rather than taking glory for himself.
The wide receiver’s comments come as faith has spread throughout college football like crazy, from Notre Dame to Ohio State to Ole Miss, players and coaches are becoming more vocal about their faith than ever. Last year, Ohio State won the National Championship, and even after this feat, players had their eyes on the Lord, rather than the trophy they were lifting up.
“We hear a lot of times people talk about their faith, and people sort of dismiss it,” ESPN’s Rece Davis said about the team after their win. “These guys were sharing their faith and reaching out and baptizing guys on campus — not just football teammates. And it became something powerful to them, not because they thought it was going to be handed to them to win a game, but it developed, it changed their relationships, and it changed selfishness and made it go away. It was impactful for them. It didn’t mean they were going to guarantee they were going to win.”
It is truly incredible to see how college athletes are using their platform to spread the Gospel rather than further their own names. Now that many of these players are moving on to the NFL as well, their impact will only continue to grow as they inspire the younger generation to take their faith seriously and find their worth in the Lord, rather than in their success on the field.
