Bethany Hamilton took to Instagram recently to encourage her followers with a “late-night” thought.

“I had a late-night thought,” she began. The thought? “That we always want to show up our best.”

“Like no matter what you’re doing, to just do it your best, give it your all,” the pro surfer and shark attack survivor said. “When no one’s watching, especially do your best, and then when everyone’s watching, do your best as well, and life will just the better that way. Like, it’s better to just give it our all.”

She continued in the caption, “Even when you’re scared…Even when it’s hard! Even when you’re tired…Whatever you do work at it heartily as doing it for the Lord!🫶🏽✌🏽 LETS GOOOO!!!”

She also emphasized that she and her husband “work to instill this on my children as well! But I must lead by example!!!”

People in the comment section appreciated the advice.

“You’re right…just do it for the Lord, he’s with us all the way,” one person said. Another person added, “The quote we try to instill in our kids is ‘How you do Anything is how you do Everything!'”

Proverbs 10:9 reminds us of the importance of doing our best and walking in integrity. It reads, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”

In a discussion last year at Liberty University, Hamilton explained that God guides us as we persevere through challenging times.

“God has a plan for each and every one of you to know Him and to be loved by Him. [God] wants you to have a good and healthy direction, so dive into God’s Word and know His plan for you. If you feel directionless, God’s will bring you direction,” she said.

She added, “It’s so easy to get caught up in the here and now and the little things each and every day. But take some time to ponder what you want for your life. When the five-wave set comes, it’s not going to last 15 minutes like it does in the ocean. Sometimes it can be years of trial and challenge and hardship, and that’s when the true persevering kicks in.”

Hamilton explained that “When each of us keeps going through those hardships, we have a ripple effect on one another. When the going gets tough, let’s run this race with endurance. Let’s look at God to be the author and finisher of our faith, so when we feel like giving up, we can keep going because we know that we have a God who has more for our life.”

Hamilton’s life shows that faith can give people strength, hope and purpose no matter what challenges they face.
