BLUE BEETLE Star Can’t Wait to Return to Role in Animated Show

BLUE BEETLE actor Xolo Maridueña shared his excitement to reprise his role as the titular character and continue exploring the story through an animated show.
“There’s only one Blue Beetle,” Maridueña told Hablamos de Cine, per Deadline. “I’m so excited to get to continue the story of Jaime. It is an honor and I just can’t wait to see where the heck he goes. It’s still so early but I just know it’s about to be the next craziest anime.”
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Animation and DC announced they would be continuing the story of BLUE BEETLE through a new animated show. Along with Maridueña, director Angel Manuel Soto and screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer will return as executive producers on the show along with Galen Vaisman, who was an executive producer on the movie.
The storyline of BLUE BEETLE highlighted the importance of family and strong morality. These aspects helped it connect with its audience, making it strong enough to return for a show.
BLUE BEETLE is an engaging superhero movie with lots of heart. It has exciting action scenes and plenty of jeopardy. Even better, BLUE BEETLE has a strong morally uplifting worldview, with some light Christian references. The movie shows that Jaime’s love for his family is his greatest strength. Sadly, however, this pro-family message is marred by excessive foul language, brief false theology and some politically correct, Marxist content. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for BLUE BEETLE.

Maridueña has a strong appreciation for family in real life as well. He previously credited those around him for keeping him humble and on the right path.
“That has been a thing that has helped keep my mental state the best, having people around me that have been there,” he told PEOPLE, adding that without his family to rely on, it would be harder to “figure out where I fit in with this larger Hollywood world or ecosystem.”
“They really helped create this sense of confidence at a young age — whether it was illusory or real — that I could do anything that I put my mind to,” he added. “They were so supportive, and they made so many sacrifices.”
