BLUEY Episode Brings This Author to Tears: ‘Why Did No One Prepare [Me]?’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Author and speaker Carlos Whittaker recently found out why kids and parents alike love BLUEY so much.
“I told the Internet that I’ve never watched an episode of BLUEY @officialblueytv and was greeted with an avalanche of ‘This is the greatest cartoon ever!!!’” Whittaker posted on Instagram. “So I decided to watch one 8 minute episode called Sleepy Time to see what the hype was about …”
He added, “OMG WHY DID NO ONE PREPARE MY TORTURED HEART???”
In the video, Whittaker watched the episode of BLUEY, noting that it’s very “well-animated.” After just three minutes, he was already starting to get emotional. By the end of the episode, Whittaker was crying.
“What I didn’t have in my cards today was crying over an episode of BLUEY,” he joked at the end of his video, then added that the episode “just shows the importance of parenting!”
It’s no surprise Whittaker was brought to tears by an episode of BLUEY. Last year, the episode “The Sign” made headlines for how emotional it made parents. The episode is also nominated for a Teddy® Award for “Best Television For Families,” as well as episode “Ghostbasket.”

“As a parent you aspire to be as good of parents as Chilli and Bandit are as parents. They always have a great way of talking kids through issues,” said John Schmidt, an Ohio dad who was interviewed by AP News about BLUEY’s impact on parents.
He continued, “I watched all these great shows, but I think BLUEY is still a favorite, maybe because I have kids. But I put it right up there with all of them. I get emotional about the potential of BLUEY no longer having new episodes.”

Whittaker often speaks about his faith, telling Church Leaders, “I just love going to church with my family now. Worship looks like what I’m doing now: worshipping with people that don’t believe like me, holding my own and having a blast doing it.”
He recently wrote a book, “RECONNECTED: How 7 Screen-Free Weeks with Monks and Amish Farmers Helped Me Recover the Lost Art of Being Human,” and said the experience helped him grow closer to God.
“I was constantly filling my mind with content, but when all that went away, it was just me and my mind. God got really tangled up,” he said of his digital detox. “When I look at my faith, when I am just consuming, consuming, consuming on all of these devices, that builds a box around who God can be. God got way bigger than I think I had ever pictured he was going to get.”
