This Actress Left Hollywood to ‘Focus On’ Her Family
By Movieguide® Contributor
Cameron Diaz has finally returned to Hollywood after a 10-year hiatus to focus on family.
“I was not keeping up with any kind of training,” the actress shared in a video posted to Netflix’s YouTube channel. “I did nothing public.”
Diaz added that she “said no to everything” and focused her efforts on her family and the wine company she started in 2020.
“That was what I was putting most of my focus on, if I was doing anything other than just sort of being a mom and living my day-to-day,” she said. “And that was pretty much it. I’m just trying to stay alive just like every other mother. I’m just trying to keep it going.”

Diaz is making her return to the screen in Netflix’s DAY SHIFT, alongside Jamie Foxx. The two also worked together on 2014’s ANNIE.
“Cameron is such an incredible force and she has done so much in this business,” Foxx said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “We love her.”
He added that, in order to convince Diaz to sign on to the project, he asked her, “’Do you wanna have some fun? Just have some fun!’ And I think that’s what brought her to it.”
Her starring role in DAY SHIFT doesn’t mean Diaz is back in the spotlight for good, though.
“I don’t know how I view it. It’s hard to say,” Diaz told Empire when asked if this movie role means she’s permanently back to acting. “If I say it then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to.”
She continued, “I’m not defining anything. I’m just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment,” she said, adding, “No more romcoms, only momcoms.”
