Can You Guess Disney’s Highest-Grossing Animated Movie of All Time?
By Jessilyn Lancaster, Managing Editor
THE LION KING (2019) edged out FROZEN over the weekend to become Disney’s highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
Families stormed the box office since the movie’s release in July, and THE LION KING remake garnered more than $1.3 billion in the worldwide box office, edging out FROZEN’s $1.2 billion record.
So, what’s the draw?
“This film is really about intergenerational connection and the continuing cycle of it,” Director Jon Favreau previously told Movieguide®.

“I think when you’re little, you like the …warthog and the and the funny songs and the cute cubs, but as you get older, you start to really like what Mufasa has to say, and the sense that even though life has its struggles, there is a sense of order to it, and the circle of life that you have to be a part of, and that we need to all responsibly participate in,” Favreau said.
Movieguide® rated THE LION KING (2019) as +1 and “Worthwhile.”
