Candace Cameron Bure: How Waiting on God Helped Her Find Joy in Motherhood

Actress Candace Cameron Bure recently shared a personal experience of how God rewarded her patience.

“I feel like patience has become one of my superpowers,” Cameron told Christian author Bianca Juarez Olthoff on the “Candace Cameron Bure” podcast.

Bure said previously, “Being a mother requires patience. Being a spouse requires patience. Being a child of God teaches you patience. One of the biggest takeaways of my budding career was learning to be patient. I still am.”

“My biggest season of waiting was in raising my kids, waiting for the acting to come back,” she shared with Olthoff. “But here’s the thing that was really interesting. There was a time and a moment where my husband and I talked about it, and again, I don’t want anyone to think I didn’t love raising my kids. I did. It was just this massive shift for me that took several years for me to transition into and feel confident and good about it and intentional about it.”

After a few years, though, Bure felt ready to go back to work. She talked with her husband, and he supported her. But when it came time to take on a new role, God spoke to Bure.

“Well, I actually booked a television show, a series. We were still living in Florida at the time. And we were prepared to move back to Los Angeles. And the funny thing was we agreed on everything, the contract came, and I thought about it, and I went, ‘I can’t do this. I can’t sign it, I can’t do it.’ And not I can’t, it was I don’t want to, this isn’t right. It’s not the right time,” the actress said.

“And yet everything we had prepared for was to do that. So I’m like, I’ve been waiting for so long, then the opportunity came and was right in front of me, and I just, God was like, ‘Nope.’ I mean, I just knew in my spirit that was not for me to do.”

Because Bure waited and listened to God, she found peace with her situation. She had newfound happiness in her role as a mom and wife.

“The greatest thing about that for me was the shift that it did in my heart and my mind, because the waiting was over, the opportunity was there, and then when I turned down the opportunity, it allowed me and made me so present in what I was actually doing at home from that day forward,” she told Olthoff.

“I guess because it felt like a choice,” she continued. “And then that shift was an amazing shift in the waiting period. And then I just, from then on out, I was like, oh, I am here for motherhood. I am here to be the best wife I can be for my husband. And it was just a game changer for me.”

Olthoff said, “Your learning lessons in patience is going to set people free. I am very excited about seeing the fruit of it. I want that superpower.”

Olthoff shared about patience with followers on Instagram last year:

Waiting for your promise? Promise requires patience. It takes 8️years for a vine to produce grapes used for wine.

Don’t give up in the waiting. The waiting makes your fruit VALUABLE. And if you want your fruit to last (John 15:1-20), you’re gonna have to press and crush it.

Are you pressed?
Are you crushed?
Are you producing fruit?

This is part of the plan. This is the harvest that was promised for you. Stay in the PROCESS and see what you PRODUCE.

Bure and Olthoff recently talked about the goodness of God on Bure’s podcast. Movieguide® reported:

“Sometimes we can hold onto these promises, and we think it’s going to look a certain way,” she went on. “We look at our promises and we think, like, ‘Boom, next week, this is what it’s going to look like,’ and when it doesn’t, we think that we didn’t hear from God.”

In these low moments, Olthoff said it’s important to focus on God and His love.

“I want you to ask the why, but I want you to then turn your focus on the who because if you stay with the why, you’ll get bitter,” she explained. “But if you stay on the who — God, you are good. God, you are for me. God, you’ve not abandoned me and I’m choosing to believe that I will see the goodness of God in the land of the living — that’s how we make it through.”
