Candace Cameron Bure Talks UNSUNG HERO on THE VIEW: ‘Family is the Way’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Candace Cameron Bure returned to THE VIEW, where she talked about her upcoming movie, UNSUNG HERO.

“After 8 years I went back to my old stomping grounds this morning on @theviewabc,” she posted. “I loved being back, seeing everyone, and talking about @unsungheromovie!”

The movie tells the story of for KING + COUNTRY frontmen Joel and Luke Smallbone’s family move from Australia to the United States.

“I formed a friendship with Joel and Luke and the whole Smallbone family because of the show when they performed for my birthday, so they are an incredible family, and they are so talented,” Bure said of taking on the film. “Won so many Grammys, and yet I never knew their humble beginnings, and they share that story on stage at their concerts.”

“When they came and shared the script with me and I heard their story, it’s unbelievable,” she continued. “So, they are a family of seven kids. Their dad was a very well-known music producer in Australia, and he lost everything after a deal went bad, and they moved to the U.S. They immigrated here and had absolutely nothing, like a jar of a few dollars, and so this story is how it’s about miracles. It’s about the unsung hero who, in my view from this movie, is their mom, Helen, who really kept the pieces together of their family.”

David, the Smallbones’ father, did all he could for his family as he faced hardships.

“But, you know, he just…couldn’t catch a break, and yet they made their life an adventure,” Bure explained. “One of the best lines in the film is, ‘Your family isn’t in the way, your family is the way.’ It’s a really beautiful story, and I’m so proud to have produced the movie and be a part of it, be a part of their story and journey and sharing it on the big screen.”

UNSUNG HERO will premiere in theaters on April 26.

“The film is a love letter to motherhood and mothers,” said co-director Richard L. Ramsey. “I really love the way the film explores that different people in your lives saw needs and acted and that’s a miracle in its own way.”

Bure plays Kay Albright. “Man, I devoured that script,” she told Andrew Erwin. “I really did. I devoured it, and I was like, ‘Yes. Yes, you guys need to make this. Yes, I would love to be a part of it, whether it is as a producer’ – and then it was like, well, there’s an acting part, so I was like, yeah, bonus.”

Movieguide® previously reported:

Andy Erwin is starting a podcast, and one of his first guests was Candace Cameron Bure. The two talked about UNSUNG HERO, their recent project together.

“You and I produced a movie with Kingdom and Lionsgate that’s coming out in April and you also act in it,” Erwin said. “It was really kind of a treat to collaborate with you. We really loved and respected your brand for a long time, and…both of us fell in love with the script at the same time and both of us love for KING + COUNTRY…”

When Luke and Joel Smallbone contacted Erwin and Bure about their idea for a movie about their family, they were nervous about accepting the project. However, after reading the script, they were both extremely impressed and wanted to join the project to help in any way they could.
