Great American Family star Carlos PenaVega says there are things in life that cost too much of your time, thoughts or relationships.
“What if the most expensive things in your life…aren’t actually about money? We’re so focused on what things cost financially… but we rarely stop and ask: What is this costing me emotionally…mentally…relationally?” the actor/singer shared in a recent social media video.
Some commitments we make or things we do negatively affects our kids, marriage, health and peace.
“Because here’s the truth…the bill always comes due,” he explained. “And if something is too expensive in those areas, eventually something good is going to pay the price.”
“So maybe the better question isn’t, ‘Can I afford this?’ It’s: ‘Is this costing me too much?’ Because if it is…it’s probably not worth it.”
He encouraged his followers to take a look at their own lives and check whether they have anything too expensive that they need to let go of.

For the PenaVegas, something that had too high a price on their family and lifestyle was living in Hollywood.
“When we were living in California, there was never actually a break. The industry happens 24/7,” Carlos’ wife, Alexa, previously told PEOPLE. “And we thought, we need a place to go and reconnect and that needs to be our home.”
The family moved to Hawaii after they had their first child and later settled in Tennessee.
“We’ve never fit the Hollywood mold,” Alexa said. “We’ve never done things in the conventional way.”
“We still have fantastic friends who live there [in California], but most of them don’t have kids and aren’t married,” she added.
Carlos had trouble relating to people who didn’t approve of his lifestyle as a new dad.
“We visited Maui and we started finding all of these young Christian couples,” Carlos said. “We prayed on it and then we moved here three months later.”
Once they moved, they felt happy, relieved and supported by their new community.
Alexa said, “I’ve never been in one place for more than three or four months. I didn’t know how badly we needed as a family to set our roots. It’s given us a chance to create those routines with our family.”
She continued, “The LA mentality is work hard, play hard. We’re all about working hard, but first and foremost, it’s our faith and our family.”
They’ve also decided they don’t want to make typical Hollywood content. Most of their recent projects have been through Great American Family.
“We really believe in creating content that is good for you,” Alexa said. “We feel very strongly that we need more content that is family-friendly. It doesn’t need to be PG-13 or R to be a good movie.” …You can say that again!
Every family has to make sacrifices to be peaceful and functional, but many realize it too late. It’s great that the PenaVegas are on top of it.
