Gospel legend CeCe Winans recently shared why she always praises God, no matter how difficult life gets.
“As you read the scriptures about praise and worship and how God inhabits the praises of His people, He dwells in the midst of His people. I caught on to that,” she said during an episode of TBN’s PRAISE.
Winans shared that her father taught her to praise God, even during hard times. She recalled the moment her brother Roland died, and seeing her father immediately began to praise the Lord.
“Seeing how God carried my parents through that, losing a child…[my father] understood the power of praise,” she explained. “So, when I’m going through a rough time, a challenging time, I know even if I’m crying, I cry with my hands lifted up.”

Winans continued, “It gives me the strength because worship always puts your focus on the greatness of God. Even when life hits us, and it hits us really hard, I know to cry out to Him. And that’s why I’m so passionate about worship because I understand it is a gift. It is a weapon.”
The gospel singer recently released a new song, “At The Cross,” a cover of a classic hymn.
“There’s something so powerful about the old hymns. Words that have carried generations back to the heart of God,” Winans said in a statement about the single. “‘At the Cross’ reminds us where mercy and love meet, where sin and shame are washed away, and where our story is forever changed by the blood of Jesus. I pray this song draws you back to that sacred place, to the foot of the Cross.”
Winans also broke records with her recent “More Than This” world tour, which saw her performing across 11 countries and three continents.
“Walking into concerts filled with people from every corner of the world singing these songs of faith was overwhelming,” she said of the experience. “This tour has reminded me that music truly transcends borders. It unites us, strengthens us, and draws us closer to God. And being able to step off the stage and serve communities, like my time in Kenya with Compassion International, was a powerful reminder that this calling is always bigger than me.”
Praising God is easy in the high moments, but Winans’ words are a reminder that, even in dark times, we should show thanks to God.
