By Movieguide® Contributor
Danica McKellar just finished filming her newest Great American Christmas movie: A ROYAL CHRISTMAS BALL.
“That’s a wrap!! Had the BESTS time shooting my @greatamericanfamily Christmas movie, and I’m SO proud of it and excited for you to see it this November! 🥰🎄🎬 👑,” McKellar shared on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone involved, including @billabbothc and the entire GAF team.”
“I’ll be sharing more as we get closer to the airdate,” she added. 🤗 Oh – thank you to all of YOU for watching my @greatamericanfamily movies. I appreciate you more than you know!!! 🙏🤗”
A ROYAL CHRISTMAS BALL began production in the middle of April. McKellar and her co-star Oliver Rice received extensive dance training with DANCING WITH THE STARS pro Gleb Savchencko before jumping into the movie.
“In A ROYAL CHRISTMAS BALL, Chelsea Jones (McKellar) is a dance instructor and studio owner in Chicago who inspires kids to find themselves through dance,” the official description for the movie reads. “Just before Christmas, Chelsea discovers a photo she’s never seen before. Chelsea thinks the young woman is her birth mother who passed away when she was only five years old.”
“The woman is in a wedding dress tugging on the hand of a man wearing a wedding ring, but that is all that can be seen of the man Chelsea believes may be her father,” the description continues. “The photo’s handwritten inscription reads, ‘Our place, Havenshire, December 23, 1984.’ With only the internet, a place ticket, and a lifelong determination to go on, Chelsea now has four days in Havenshire to solve the mystery of her birth family. Along the way, she’ll have to sneak into a castle, teach a stubborn Prince how to dance, and be in just the right place on Christmas Eve when the bell tolls.”
“My inspiration for writing the story was I love to dance. I just adore the art,” McKellar said in a teaser for the movie. “For me, this is the perfect Great American Christmas movie because it incorporates so many amazing elements: love, Christmas, faith, and family.”
While the movie has yet to have an official release date, it appears to be slated for the earlier part of the Great American Christmas celebration, releasing sometime in November. It was originally set to release during last year’s celebration but ended up being delayed due to scheduling difficulties.
