DirecTV’s New Packages Let You Pay Only for the Channels You Want

By Movieguide® Contributor

DirecTV’s got just the thing for sports junkies, newsaholics and other genre fans with its new budget-friendly packages.

“At DirecTV, we’re breaking up with the one-size-fits-all bloated cable bundles of the past by delivering new ways for consumers to enjoy the content they love at the best value,” Vince Torres, the Chief Marketing Officer at DirecTV, said. “Our new Genre Packs and Mini-Packs provide lower-priced options, allowing customers to pick and choose what they want to watch and when they want to watch it.”

The new packages are called MyEntertainment, MyNews and MiEspañol. They’re part of DirecTV’s promise to have more low-cost programs to compete with Sling TV. Each package comes with channels from networks like Disney, Fox, NBC, WBD, A+E and Televisa-Univision. Users can sign up for a free five-day trial with any of the packages, no contract required.

They are currently available to buy through DirecTV Stream and will be accessible on other DirecTV platforms over the coming months.

MyEntertainment has more than 40 cable networks with Disney Plus and Hulu ad-supported plans for $35 per month. DirecTV said it would also add ad-supported Max for free but didn’t say when.

MyNews has 10 national and global news channels for $40 per month. MiEspañol has over 60 Spanish-language channels, with Telemundo and Univision for $35 per month. Vix Premium will also be available for subscribers in the coming months.

These packages follow the launch of MySports, which gives subscribers access to national sports channels for $70 per month with free ESPN Plus.

DirecTV is also introducing two add-on packages: MyCinema and MySports Extra. MyCinema gives access to Turner Classic Movies, Sony Movies, Grit, Family Movie Classics and Lifetime Movie Network (LMN), and other channels for $10 per month. The add-on is not available for MiEspañol subscribers.

MySports Extra is available only for MySports subscribers for $13 per month. It has NFL RedZone, MotorTrend, MavTV, Pursuit Channel and Willow.

More regional sports networks will be available next month through an add-on called MyHomeTeam.
