Disney Channel Star Joshua Bassett: ‘Jesus Christ is the Only Way’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Disney Channel star Joshua Bassett recently proclaimed his newfound faith over social media platforms after two encounters with Jesus.

“Jesus Christ is the only way,” Bassett said. “His death and resurrection are historically documented. Turn away from hate, seek forgiveness and come home to Him.”

Many of Bassett’s fans were confused by this declaration as he had never publicly shared about his faith before.

Bassett later shared that he had experienced two undeniable encounters with Jesus which prompted his openness to faith.

“Tonight at church I prayed to God, ‘so I will know for certain that you are Jesus, and He is the only way, please send someone to touch my back and I will shout it from the rooftops,’” Bassett shared, “moments later, two people came up behind me, saying that God put it on their hands on me and pray.”

Then he wrote in another post, “a few months ago I asked God to ‘send me a sign’ when I write the truth.”

Bassett said that when he typed “Jesus is the way” that “nothing happened,” but when he added “Jesus is the *only* way” that “the light turned on in my living room.”

While Bassett may be turning some heads with his unexpected testimonies, the Disney Channel star is no stranger to controversy. Although Bassett is one of the leads in HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: THE MUSICAL: THE SERIES, he is better known for being the alleged villain in Olivia Rodrigo’s breakout single ‘Driver’s License’ and subsequent album SOUR. A role that has led to incessant harassment and death threats.

Around the release of ‘Driver’s License’ in 2021, Bassett was hospitalized for heart failure.

“[The doctors] told me that I had a 30% chance of survival. They told me if I had not checked into the hospital within 12 hours, I would have been found dead in my apartment,” Bassett told GQ.

Understandably, Bassett has struggled with depression and anxiety. Yet, Bassett hinted that he may have started to find healing and victory over these struggles.

“For those concerned about me, be sure of this: I’m better than I have ever been. The peace I feel is far beyond what I thought possible.”
