As Disney integrates the stand-alone Hulu app and its content into Disney+, some activists sound the alarm that the merge means hundreds of R-rated movies will now appear on what was once a child-friendly streamer.

“CWA research reveals that Disney+ will go from having 19 R-rated movies, to having over 439 R-rated movies — a more than 2,200% increase; and from 45 TV-MA (mature audiences only) series to 425 TV-MA rated series, a more than 840% increase,” Christian organization Concerned Women for America said in a press release about the merge. “It will also, presumably, bring over its first NC-17 title (which the MPAA now uses in place of the ‘X’ rating), BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR, which currently streams on Hulu.”

Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWA, added, “All of this represents a startling direction for a brand that was once synonymous with wholesome family entertainment. Disney assured parents in 2019 that they wouldn’t allow content higher than a PG-13 on its streaming platform. So this is a betrayal of trust for the parents who built their household media habits around Disney’s ‘family friendly only’ promise.”

After Disney acquired Hulu from Comcast in 2025, they began slowly transitioning content over to Disney+. The company has since confirmed that the Hulu app will disappear altogether sometime in 2026, though an official date hasn’t been announced.

By then end of this week, Hulu will no longer be available on the Nintendo Switch.

“The Hulu app is no longer available in the Nintendo Switch eShop with support for the application ending on February 5, 2026,” the company said on its website.

This is far from the first time that Disney+ has strayed from its family-forward brand.

Last year, the company faced backlash when the inappropriate series DYING FOR SEX was advertised on the Disney+ landing page.

Received from multiple sources. Disney is reportedly advertising a series called DYING FOR SEX on the front page of their streaming service. One source says their 6-year-old saw it and started asking about it. I thought this application was supposed to be ‘family friendly.’ What’s going on @DisneyPlus?” Libs of TikTok said on X last April.

Even some of their children’s content isn’t safe from inappropriate content. Several movies and shows from the last few years promoted LGBT relationships and themes.

As darkness continues to infiltrate the media, it is so important that parents are aware of the dangerous content that your children can access. Check out Movieguide® and the Movieguide® App so that you can stay informed.
