Sadie Robertson Huff has some words of wisdom for parents looking to implement discipleship into their home’s daily routines.

“To shepherd a child’s heart is to always bring them back to what God’s responsibility is for you as parents to love them and who they are as God’s children,” Huff said during a recent fan Q&A video. “And shepherding their hearts is a beautiful approach, whenever you think about discipling them.”

The DUCK DYNASTY star said the couple have had many “amazing” chances “to talk about God’s love and to talk about who God is and just do that in such a casual way and just show them [daughters Honey, Haven and Kit] ministry is our life.”

“I don’t want them to just see me praying over people onstage,” Huff continued. “They need to see me praying over people at restaurants. They need to see me praying over people at Disney World. Wherever we are, we’re praying for people. Wherever we are, we’re ministering to people.”

She counseled fellow parents to do the same, recommending they set children up “to think about their spiritual life as just when they’re at church, or just when it’s in a ministry setting. It’s an always thing.”

Huff previously spoke about the importance of discipleship, telling the audience at a 2020 virtual town hall to seek out relationships that allow them to explore and learn more about being a disciple.

“Sometimes, our generation is fearful to ask for a mentor or fearful to ask to be discipled, but we crave it,” she said. “And so if you are in the older generation…if you came up to us and said, ‘Can I disciple you?’ I know my answer would be yes every time. And I know a whole lot of people who would agree with me who are my age.”

The reality star has also talked about her desire to minister in every moment of her life, not just when she’s speaking onstage.

“We can’t keep compartmentalizing our spiritual life and our personal life,” she told the audience at Passion 2023. “We have to get it out of our heads that those…are different things, and they have to become one thing.”

Huff continued, “Ministry is who you are, and it’s where you are, and it’s what you do, because you are a disciple of Christ, ministry is a full-time thing. Ministry is not a separate thing.”

Parents who are trying to find ways to integrate faith into their children’s lives can take a page out of Huff’s book, bringing discipleship into everyday activities.
