Did you know that one of the most iconic lines from THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING wasn’t originally in the script?
Frodo Baggins says, “All right then, keep your secrets,” in the first movie of the beloved trilogy of movies, quoted often by fans and in internet memes.
However, Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, recently revealed at Fan Expo Portland that the line “was actually shot during pickups,” i.e. re-shoots of scenes they had already filmed earlier.
“It was not shot during principal photography,” the actor added. “I’m pretty sure that sequence was from pickups.”

This isn’t the only famous line that wasn’t originally part of the script. Sean Bean, who played Boromir, recently shared that one of his famous lines — “One does not simply walk into Mordor” — was also a last-minute addition to the script.
“[It] was just changing every 10 minutes,” the actor said of the monologue while appearing on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, adding that he actually read his lines off of a “cheat sheet” during the filming of the scene.
Bean added, “I just had a bit of card. That’s why I kept looking down,” joking, “And it gave me gravitas.”
Both Wood and Bean have spoken about their surprise that the LORD OF THE RINGS movies were so successful.
“Because we weren’t making one movie and then renegotiating a contract for the next, it wasn’t the sort of lucrative scenario that you could sort of rest easy for the rest of your life,” Wood told Business Insider of his payday for the first movie.
While Wood and his co-stars didn’t score “massive salaries,” the actor said they all got something much better.
“The benefit of that was that we were also signing up for something that was going to be a part of our lives forever,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bean told the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he “didn’t realize how big” the movie would become, as production was so “secretive.”
A new LOTR movie is on the way. Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the trilogy, is set to star in and direct THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM, expected out next year.
“I can neither confirm nor deny,” Wood said when asked by ScreenRant if he would appear in the movie. “I’m really excited about the film. I think it really is a creative ‘getting the band back together.’…It’s very much that core original group getting back together to tell this story that will feel like a really fun exploration of this character that we all love so much. And I’m just really excited.”
The LORD OF THE RINGS franchise was nominated for multiple Movieguide® Awards.
