GREY’S ANATOMY star Eric Dane opened up about his ALS diagnosis, telling Diane Sawyer, “In my heart, I don’t feel like this is the end for me. I’m fighting as much as I can.”

“I didn’t really think anything of it at the time,” Dane said during an interview with Sawyer for GOOD MORNING AMERICA. “I thought maybe I’d been texting too much or my hand was fatigued, but a few weeks later I noticed it got a little worse. So I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist and said, ‘This is way above my pay grade.’”

Dane was eventually diagnosed with ALS, telling Sawyer, “I will never forget those three letters. It’s on me the second I wake up. It’s not a dream.”

“My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,” he shared, adding, “I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”

Despite the physical effects of his condition, Dane said he has no plans to stop working, telling Variety, “I am ready and willing to do just about anything, but I have limitations that I understand will preclude me from playing certain roles. I’m working on EUPHORIA. I finished COUNTDOWN. As far as that goes, I’m pretty capable.”

“In my heart, I don’t feel like this is the end for me,” Dane told GMA. “I’m fighting as much as I can. There’s so much about it that’s out of my control.”

Dane spoke to Variety in another interview about his ongoing work on EUPHORIA, sharing that “There’s gonna be redemption [for his character, Cal]. I mean, that’s the trajectory he’s on.”

While Dane is struggling to deal with the affects of his ALS, this is not the end of his story. The actor must accept Christ into his heart and repent, more specifically, for his work on the immoral EUPHORIA.

“I never considered myself an artist until I started making EUPHORIA,” Dane told Variety. “That’s when I gave myself the allowance to feel like I was an artist.”

However, the show has been criticized for its excessive content. Movieguide® reported, “EUPHORIA missteps at every turn on the moral highway. The show glosses over the problem of sin, and operates under the assumption that this life is all we have. Without an acknowledgement of God or his moral standard, or a life beyond, it should come as no surprise the best the world can do is glorify sin.”

“If EUPHORIA accomplishes one good thing, it is a striking reminder that humans are in need of a savior,” Movieguide® continued. “Whether intentional or not, its deceitful and destructive content shows us that when we operate without a biblical worldview, we are easily influenced by the world.”

Please keep Dane and his family in your prayers as they continue to navigate this difficult time.
