Ex-Porn Star Amazed by How God Transformed His Life

Joshua Broome used to work in the adult film industry until God saved him out of that lifestyle and turned his life around.

In a discussion with former country star Granger Smith, Broome shared his heart to surrender to God and leave everything that connected him to his promiscuous past.

“It’s just amazing to see what God will do when you surrender and submit your life and say, ‘Hey, I’m going to lay down my plan, I’m going to lay down my wounds… all of it,’ and say, ‘Lord, I want to serve you in the best way I know how,” Broome explained. “I want to steward my story in a way that doesn’t point people to myself, that points people to [God]. Also, you know, the struggle of God wanting to use you individually and same with me. It’s like God wanting to use us individually to proclaim His glory, to be a carrier of His word of reconciliation but do it in a way where you’re walking in humility.”

Part of turning away from his past and allowing God to use him involved getting the tattoos that he got when he was working in the industry removed.

“I had a Celtic cross on my shoulder, and then I had…not proud of it, but I’d gone out and…I had way too many drinks, and I got a random person’s name tattooed to my wrist. So, I had both of those tattoos,” Broome explained. “It wasn’t that I wanted to cover up the cross. For me, [it was] like a digital footprint of who I used to be. So, like I just wanted to have a time stamp of like, ‘Hey, here is this on my arm, this is gone, anything that I’m doing on this side of time, you can’t attach to what I used to do.'”

The former porn star became a pastor and now uses his platform to warn against the destructive industry.

“The reality is: porn is detrimental to you,” he said previously. “It’s detrimental to the people you love most.”

“Each and every day I get hundreds of messages that say, ‘Josh, I’m a Christian. I love Jesus. But I cannot stop watching pornography. Please help me,’” Broome said. “So the reality is: Christians are addicted to pornography and watching pornography.”

He urges churches to address the issue head on.

“We talk around it, but we don’t talk about it,” he said. “And if we talk around sin, we’ll never eradicate sin. So if we don’t talk about porn, we’ll never give people language to combat it, and what we’re trying to do is give people weapons to fight the real battle that they’re in.”
