GAC’s Bill Abbott ‘Thrilled’ With Pure Flix Merger, Upcoming Content

By Movieguide® Contributor

Great American Family’s CEO Bill Abbott has some exciting news for fans of the network, from new partnerships to upcoming movies.

The biggest announcement? GAC and Pure Flix will be merging!

“We are thrilled to have entered into an agreement to merge with Pure Flix, a streaming platform that focuses on faith and family content,” Abbott shared in a Great American Family Insider update. “This new structure will allow us to produce more programming for [our audience] and expand the reach of our content.”

He went on to say that GAC will continue to “work hard at developing movies that reach a certain quality level,” and thanked viewers for their continued support of the network.

This merger does mean a little reshuffling when it comes to new movie premieres. Some of the projects that were expected to debut in June will now be held until July and August.

“The silver lining here is we will be able to offer you a new movie every Saturday night throughout the remainder of the year once we get started this Summer,” Abbott’s statement continued.

GAC’s always-popular Christmas movies are still on track for release.

“Candace [Cameron Bure]’s Christmas movie is already produced, and we’ll once again have movies with Danica [McKellar (Fall & Christmas), Jen Lilley (possibly TWO Christmas movies with her), Jill Wagner and many of your other favorite stars!” Abbott promised.

He also revealed some new projects in the works, including some AURORA TEAGARDEN-style mysteries.

“I want to thank you for your support and encouragement,” Abbott concluded. “It is highly motivating to the entire team at Great American Media, and I will never take it for granted!”

It’s no surprise GAC has so many exciting things happening. Movieguide® previously reported on the network’s success:

According to a press release from Great American Family, led by CEO Bill Abbott, the new network is the number one fastest-growing network in cable television.

“Great news for Great American Media’s #GreatAmericanFamily to end 2022 and an even better way to start 2023,” GAC Family wrote in a post on Facebook. “Happy New Year to everyone who helped make this happen – from the people on-camera and off, but especially our viewers!”

The official press release reads:

Great American Family closed out Fourth Quarter 2022 as the fastest-growing network in all of cable television. In only its second year, the emerging leader in original Christmas movies ranked #1 in Total Day ratings growth in Households (+113%), People 18-49 (+100%) and Total Viewers (+116%), and #1 in Primetime ratings growth in Households (+128%) among all cable networks.

Fourth Quarter 2022 viewership growth was driven by the network’s Great American Christmas franchise which featured 18 original Christmas movies and fan-favorite stars including Candace Cameron Bure, Danica McKellar, Gladys Knight, Jen Lilley and more. The expanded slate of 18 films marked a 50% increase in the network’s holiday movie offering in year two and further established Great American Family as a destination for original Christmas movies.

In addition to the fast-growing Great American Christmas franchise, the network features year-round seasonal programming events, including Autumn Harvest and Great American Winter, which feature original movies celebrating faith, family and country.
