Team Behind GREEN AND GOLD Calls Movie a ‘Heartfelt Tribute to Rural America’

Anders and Davin Lindwall, the brothers behind GREEN AND GOLD, want their movie to “inspire” young farmers and showcase the pleasures and hardships of life in farming communities.
“There is a sweetness to [the movie], and that was part of our intent from the beginning; just trying to — it felt like the world, when we were making it, felt like it had a heaviness to it,” Anders, the movie’s director, told Movieguide®, adding that it felt like the world “needed” a more uplifting story of community.
GREEN AND GOLD tells the story of “a struggling family farmer [who] wagers everything on a high-stakes Championship bet, while his granddaughter’s musical ambitions could be their ticket to a new beginning,” per IMDb.
Anders explained that “the loss of small farms in America” was the inspiration for GREEN AND GOLD.
“That’s a very common story,” he said. “The biggest true events that were inspiring this film [are] just looking at how difficult it is and how all these generations of farmers are really just shrinking.”
Davin, the movie’s producer, shared that their grandfather was a dairy farmer, and the brothers “grew up around” farming.
“We were very much accustomed to both the beautiful nature of farming and also the harsh realities,” he said.
Speaking about what they hope audiences take away from GREEN AND GOLD, Anders said, “I wanted the film to inspire a lot of young farmers…to inspire a sense of presence for people like young farmers or even other folks who grow up in rural areas and to grow in appreciation.”
Davin added, “I think, for me, it was to showcase this part of the world that doesn’t get a lot of attention. And if it gets shown in cinema, it’s often kind of hokey, or a Disney version…I think for us, it was like, ‘How can we show the world just a different slice of life? Let’s just tell a story that feels really real to how life actually is there.’”
The brothers elaborated on their commitment to shining a light on the farming community on GREEN AND GOLD’s website.
