How This Actress Teaches Her Children to Fight the Enemy

Actress Alexa PenaVega wants to help her children know that they can trust Jesus and fight the attacks of the enemy.

“I’ve kind of been teaching them a little bit more of the enemy’s secret tactics,” she told Movieguide®. “Sometimes the enemy will whisper things to you and make you feel like you’re the only one who can’t do this or you do feel left out. But that’s not true at all. Everybody in this family loves you, everybody wants you to be a part of everything we’re doing. So, whenever you feel that way, tell the enemy to back off.”

PenaVega shared a real-life example of how she helped one of her sons put that into practice.

“So, today he was trying to draw something and he said, ‘I’m the worst drawer.’ [PeneVega replied] ‘Baby, you’re not.’ He goes, ‘Is that the enemy?’ I said, ‘Why don’t you just ask God to help you draw?’ He goes, ‘Enemy, Jesus is your master. God help me be a better drawer.’ It was really cute,” she recalled.

“They’re little kids but they totally understand God,” the SPY KIDS star continued. “They understand how He works, He there’s all the time. But I think something we don’t really talk about a lot in faith-filled communities is how the enemy whispers things to you and he tries to throw you off your tracks. I want the kids to be aware that God has authority over all.”

God reminds us in His word of the power we have over the enemy through Him:

Luke 10:19: “Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”
1 John 4:4: “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
Matthew 28:18: “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

PenaVega and her husband Carlos’ next Great American Family movie, GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS, releases this weekend, and they can’t wait.
