Reese Witherspoon is opening up about the ups and downs of being a working mom.

“Someone asked me what raising three kids and building a career in Hollywood looked like…” she wrote in an Instagram post, featuring photos of her with daughter Ava, 25, and sons Deacon, 21, and Tennessee, 12.

“It looked like spending a lot of time in trailers together,” she wrote. “It looked like always being on the road together.”

Witherspoon admitted it also “looked really hard sometimes,” adding, “I’d cry working 14 to 17 hours, sometimes all night long and still woke up early for carpool. I was deliriously tired.”

“It looked like trying to say something positive about work when I got home at night,” she continued. “So my kids would know that my work was meaningful to me and could be fun!”

The Oscar-winning actress explained that juggling work and parenting can be “challenging, but it has also given her perspective on “what was important in life.”

“Grateful to stand alongside other moms in this beautiful, messy journey,” Witherspoon captioned her post.

The LEGALLY BLONDE actress often shares her gratitude for being a mother on social media. In a 2024 Mother’s Day post, she wrote, “Mother’s Day is a beautiful day to reflect on how lucky I am to have these 3 souls in my life. Living each day with honesty, openness, vulnerability, and humor. Sharing it all. It’s the journey of four very different souls intertwined in the most connected way.”

“Each one of these kids has made me a better person by sharing their unique gifts and their open hearts with mine,” she continued. “Motherhood has been such a gift to me. Thank you Ava, Deacon and Tenn … I love you more than you will ever know.”

In a 2021 interview with InStyle, the actress said her kids are her “first, most important priority.”

“If I told you how much space in my brain they take up every day —  do you even think they know? I don’t even think they know,” Witherspoon joked.

In a conversation with Interview Magazine, Witherspoon spoke about what it’s like parenting adult children.

“That makes me want to cry, the idea of having a long relationship with adult children,” she said. “I never expected the kind of relationship that I have with them, but it’s so rewarding to be able to have kids that you can process life with a little bit, and they help me understand the complexities of what it means to be a human now. So I’m really, really grateful that these little humans are in my life. Adult humans. I have two adult children now. It’s crazy.”

Witherspoon has been open about the challenges and rewards of being a working mom, but for the Oscar-winner, it’s all worth it.
