Christian artist Danny Gokey may not have been the singer we all know and love if it hadn’t been for his painful past experience.

“My first wife passed away unexpectedly. And so were praying and believing God was gonna heal her, and everything went opposite of the prayers…I mean you talk about being emotionally overcharged. I couldn’t think properly,” Gokey explained in a recent “Everyday Joy” podcast clip.

Gokey was confused and even wondered if God was upset with him because he hadn’t answered Gokey’s prayers.

“But one of the things I had to do was just like, ‘I have no other way to go. I’ll trust you, or I’m not gonna make it, period.’”

Gokey says God “birthed” a whole ministry out of that experience.

One person commented on the clip, “The first time I heard your testimony years ago it was so touching and little did I know I would go through that grief myself when my husband passed away last year. God keeps using you tremendously! I learned to trust God in the process even when everything falls apart because I know He has my back in a way or another and I know that with His help I will make it through 🙏🏻”

“@dannygokey you have helped me understand how to understand Jesus plan for me my purpose in life🙏🏼💙,” another wrote. “I appreciate you so much for that you are truly the biggest blessing to be an impact in my life knowing you understand the physical and emotional pain I go through yet I still stay strong and never give up!”

After Gokey’s wife died, he auditioned for AMERICAN IDOL because it was what she and his friends and family wanted him to do.

It was difficult to find the motivation to do it, but “having that dream and having that vision and having that hope, really helped me to tread through the grief, the suffering, the angst of losing someone that I thought God was going to heal,” he said.

Besides having a music ministry, Gokey also started a foundation, Sophia’s Heart, after his wife died. Through it, he’s helped many families who’ve struggled with poverty, disease and broken homes.

Gokey’s story is a strong reminder that God can bring good out of our darkest moments. His experience of overcoming heartbreak has encouraged thousands of people and has even helped save lives. Gokey is truly an inspiration.
