How Sadie Robertson Huff Finds Joy, Authenticity in Christ

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sadie Robertson Huff and her husband Christian recently discussed perfectionism and how to be authentic no matter where you are on the “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.

“[Perfectionism is something] I struggle with a lot actually, I’m going to be completely honest,” Christian said. “It’s one of those things I’m hyper-aware of, like how messed up and imperfect I am, but yet I still strive so much to do things, like, in a perfect way because I am a perfectionist. And I think, you know, maybe the underlying thing would probably be control.”

Being hyper-aware of his imperfections allows Christian to see his need for Christ more than he otherwise would. It also gives him a greater opportunity to lean on God for strength.

“What it makes me think of…is the verse when it talks about the peace that surpasses all understanding,” Sadie said. “I think in moments [when things go wrong], it’s knowing that okay, if things are not perfect or if I’m not comfortable, like, I can still maintain my behavior. Like, I can still have…peace that surpasses all understanding.

“I can still have, like, joy as a strength even whenever my life doesn’t look like something that should produce joy,” she continued. “I think that’s where it’s…important that God is first.”

She explained that even when life is chaotic or difficult, “there’s still joy in me. There’s still peace in me because…my relationship with the Lord is sustaining me.”

The benefits of finding joy and strength in God extend beyond having peace in hard situations. Resting in God’s love also allows you to be authentically yourself in all situations.

Having lived on camera for much of her life, Sadie felt like many people knew of her, but none of them truly knew who she was. She shared on the “Jesus Calling” podcast that she “didn’t really want [fame]. I was like, ‘I don’t really want people [to] know who I am. I didn’t ask for this.'”

But she understood that God gave her a platform for a reason. A couple of years ago, she decided to stop putting on a face and allow herself to be fully authentic.

“I was like, you know, I’m just going to be who I am because I feel like I’m scared, like one day people are going to find out whatever – and there’s not even anything to find out – but there’s just like this real side of me that I need to express,” Sadie explained. “Once I started just like showing who I am, telling it how it is, being authentic…it just freed me in so many different ways.”

She has used social media to show people who she is in Christ. “What I want to show on social media is that I’m a whole person,” she said, per Movieguide®. “God created us with the ability to laugh and have fun… and He also created us to have wisdom, and the desire to pursue Him in worship.”

“We all have something to bring to the table,” Sadie concluded. “We all have a little bit of a different angle than what the next person in the room has and so walking in as an original is such a great gift.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Huff:

Christian influencer and former DUCK DYNASTY star Sadie Robertson Huff had a parenting epiphany on Sunday when what she thought was one of her daughter’s negative traits turned out to be something positive and powerful.

“I was sharing with my friend the other day how it is a little bit tough seeing that Honey got her little cautious spirit from me… that’s a nice way of saying she got her anxieties from me… daddy’s cute looks and mommy’s caution 🙃 ugh!” Huff shared, showing followers on Instagram a video of her daughter Honey as she builds up the courage to go down a slide.

“But then after saying it, I had a quick change of heart and said, but actually it’s such a great thing that I can teach her how to overcome that! I’ve spent my whole life overcoming fear – doing things afraid! It’s actually been the times of overcoming that have led to the greatest joys and the things I’m most proud of…! Wow, I get to teach her that!” Huff said.
