Sadie Robertson Huff: ‘Be Authentic To The Voice That God’s Given You’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sadie Robertson Huff shared her thoughts on how the younger generation can use digital media for good while appearing at an NRB forum.

“I would encourage anyone with social media to be authentic to you, to the ministry that God has given you, to the voice that God’s given you,” she said. “It’s so refreshing when someone is real, and someone believes what they’re saying, and someone has conviction behind what they’re saying.”

When talking about the large amount of time her young fans spend online, Huff said, “To be able to be a light in that space is so important, because they are already there. I love what Jesus said, ‘You are the light of the world.’ He talks about how you don’t light a lamp and put it under a stand… We are supposed to be the light of the media.”

“What I want to show on social media is that I’m a whole person,” she continued. “God created us with the ability to laugh and have fun… and He also created us to have wisdom, and the desire to pursue Him in worship.”

Even though there are downsides to social media use, Huff sees the positive aspects of the platforms, using them to connect with others.

“With social media, that’s a way for me to get to know people, and they can get to know me, so they trust me, and they like me, and we have a relationship,” she explained. “Then, when I speak, I speak very clearly and very boldly, and I don’t water down things I’m saying about the gospel of Jesus.

Huff has plenty of experience using her social media for good. The former DUCK DYNASTY star posts frequently for her thousands of followers, and she recently published a book about social media, titled “Who Are You Following? Pursuing Jesus in a Social Media Obsessed World.”

Sadie Robertson Huff recently shared passages from her upcoming book, “Who Are You Following?: Pursuing Jesus in a Social-Media Obsessed World,” ahead of its release date on Feb. 1, 2022.

In her book, Robertson Huff discusses how social media can negatively affect teenagers and young adults who place their identity in what they see online instead of in Christ.

In an excerpt released on her Instagram, Robertson Huff explores the topic of seeking approval on social media: “How do you go from liked to loved?”

“While the Like button has trained us to be likable,” Huff writes. “It has prevented us from feeling truly loved. We post our curated lives and edit our true feelings and struggles to maximize the rewards.”

“The desire to be liked in such a way that we filter who we truly are is moving us away from feeling loved because it is making it impossible for us to be truly known,” she continued.

Robertson Huff warned that the desire to be “liked” based on your social media presence will not satisfy.

“Being seen is the cheapest version of being known; visibility will not fill your heart or nourish your spirit,” her book reads. “People want so badly to be seen when their true desire is to be known. Trust me, you could be seen by millions and feel like the loneliest person. Yet you could be known by just a few and feel totally secure.”
