Sadie Robertson Huff: How to Overcome Fear With Confidence in Christ

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian influencer and former DUCK DYNASTY star Sadie Robertson Huff had a parenting epiphany on Sunday when what she thought was one of her daughter’s negative traits turned out to be something positive and powerful.

“I was sharing with my friend the other day how it is a little bit tough seeing that Honey got her little cautious spirit from me… that’s a nice way of saying she got her anxieties from me… daddy’s cute looks and mommy’s caution 🙃 ugh!” Huff shared, showing followers on Instagram a video of her daughter Honey as she builds up the courage to go down a slide.

“But then after saying it, I had a quick change of heart and said, but actually it’s such a great thing that I can teach her how to overcome that! I’ve spent my whole life overcoming fear – doing things afraid! It’s actually been the times of overcoming that have led to the greatest joys and the things I’m most proud of…! Wow, I get to teach her that!” Huff said.

Huff previously opened up about her anxiety on the “WHOA That’s Good” podcast. Movieguide® reported:

“You’re going to feel the emotion of fear, that’s a normal thing, but there’s a difference in feeling it and almost like bowing to it and living in it. I think, you know, for a time in my life I was bowing to it, like fear was driving the ship of my life. If I felt afraid, I wasn’t doing it. If I felt afraid, I was getting out of the room,” [Huff said]…

“This is not something new that people are anxious or people worry, I mean Jesus addressed it… over and over again. Old Testament, New Testament, so it’s not something new,” Robertson shared.

“God has an abundant life for us, he has a life and he tells us ‘do not fear for I am with you’. And you know when we are followers of Jesus he tells us, he’s like, I’m going and I’m leaving the spirit with you we have the spirit of God in us so we have we should be walking differently.”

Huff previously told ET that she overcomes anxiety issues by remembering that she “was created on purpose for a purpose.”

Her recent post continued, “As I watch this video two things strike me… 1 – Her words having power [and] 2 – My nearness bringing confidence.”

Huff helped Honey build confidence by reminding her that God is by her side.

“Friend who is facing fear, your words have POWER. The Bible says that the word of God is active and alive,” Huff said. “It’s amazing as you watch this video as she begins to quote scripture ‘fear not for I am with you’ her whole countenance changes. As she went from, ‘I don’t know’ to ‘I am brave. I am Honey James. I am going down the slide’ it led her to do the very thing she was so unsure of a second ago!”

“The second thing is so important…even with her words changing and holding power she still needed one more thing – for me to come closer,” Huff shared. “A lot of people try to fight fear alone in their mind and gosh that’s a very tough battle to fight alone. As I came a little closer and put two hands out she knew she could do it. If you’re fighting fear I just encourage you to call a friend and let them come a little closer. Tell them what you need, and let them help you slide down the fear your facing along side of you.”

Huff said that fear can be overcome with joy and shared a quote from her mom, Korie Robertson: “you can have a million reasons not to do something, but fear can’t be one of them.” Huff asks her followers to do what she did with Honey—say words that remind them of who they were created by and that they are capable and supported.

She said, “So friend, repeat after me, “I don’t have to fear because God is with me. I am created for life and life to the full. I need a friend to come a little closer. I can do it.”

“Honey didn’t get my cautious spirit – she got my overcoming spirit,” Huff concluded.

In 2018, Huff tweeted, “Your confidence is a choice. choose to be confident in who you are right now, in where you are right now, and most importantly in who God is now and forever.”
